13U Rankings Posted - 04/08/2009 : 10:08:16
Without spending $20 to look at 13U Georgia Rankings on some other site, this post was put together based on actual results so that instead of a subjective guess at the rankings, actual results would paint the actual picture. The results utilized were from the 3 tournaments in which a majority of the top Georgia 13U teams participated. Those tournaments were the Forsyth County Slugfest, Atlanta Super NIT and the USTBA Spring Nationals. All of the results of Georgia teams vs non-Georgia teams were eliminated so that the subjective level of the non-Georgia teams could not be argued. This is Georgia teams vs Georgia teams.

The following list is an alphabetical list of the teams that qualified by participating in at least 2 of the 3 aforementioned tournaments. The records reflect games played against other Georgia teams. Also listed are two game results that can be utilized as comparables when making a decision on who should be ranked in what order, similar to the NCAA Basketball Committee seeding the field of 64.

Bulldog Baseball (4-2) - Best Win (Hobgood) - Key Loss (EC Longhorns)

ECB Astros (12-0) - Best Win (2 Tourneys) - Key Loss (none)

ECB Combat (4-2) - Best Win (Hobgood) - Key Loss (5-Tool Nationals)

ECB Longhorns (2-7) - Best Win (Bulldog) - Key Loss (Team Gwinnitt)

ECB Stallions (7-1) - Best Win (PC Vipers) - Key Loss (ECB Astros)

Forsyth Outlaws (2-4) - Best Win (Roswell) - Key Loss (Best 9 Hawks)

Hobgood Heat (1-5) - Best Win (Pro Spot) - Key Loss (Webb Bridge)

Kennesaw Mustangs (2-3) - Key Win (GA Crush) - Key Loss (Forsyth

P. C. Vipers (9-3) - Key Win (GA Crush) - Key Loss (Sandy Springs)

Pro Spot Fitness (6-2-1) - Key Win (5-Tool) - Key Tie (SW Express)

Sandy Springs Longhorns (5-7) - Key Win (PC Vipers) - Key Loss (ECB Longhorns)

Southwest Express (0-5-1) - Key Tie (Pro Spot) - Key Loss (Roswell)

Team Gwinnett (4-2) - Key Win - (Bulldog) - Key Loss (ECB Warriors)

Teams that participated in at least one of the 3 tournaments: Powder Springs Seminoles (2-1), Rome Rage (3-2), East Cobb Warriors (1-2), Roswell Hornets (1-2), Webb Bridge (1-2), Braves Baseball (0-3), Georgia Crush (0-3), PTB Hurricanes (0-3), Sharon Springs (0-3), West Cobb Hawks (0-3).

Nothing about this is official. With any ranking of teams there will always be controversy and the feeling of being slighted or disrespected. That is not the intention of this post. It’s for fun and for informational purposes. Everyone is welcomed to submit their own rankings. Hopefully you will be objective. Here are my top 10 based on the aforementioned results:

1. East Cobb Astros
2. East Cobb Stallions
3. Paulding County Vipers
4. Pro Spot Fitness
5. Team Gwinnett
6. Bulldog Baseball
7. East Cobb Combat
8. Powder Springs Seminoles**
9. East Cobb Longhorns
10. Sandy Springs Longhorns

** I decided to add Powder Springs into this even though they've only played in one tournament. I can't rank Outlaws Baseball until they play in a meaningful tournament.

I agree with GL, we played the real Bulldog baseball at Sandy Plains. KJ hit a ball that we were lucky the fence was 400 feet away.

I realize they had a bad weekend last weekend at the USTBA tournament but I don't think you can leave Bulldog Baseball out of dicussions of the top teams in GA.

The order is strictly subjective because week in and week out, these teams can all beat each other.

While any team can win a tournament, the top teams are the ones that get mentioned weekend after weekend as potential favorites.

Name out the teams you least want to play in pool play.

While I'm not a big fan of rankings, even in the colleges, I do appreciate the information as it provided a different look at what happened in March. What it did reveal is that your pool schedule and seeding can make or break you. Not many teams could have survived the East Cobb Longhorns March schedule either. I think you will see that the tough schedule will benefit them in the long run. I also think we are finally seeing some depth in teams in this age division over at East Cobb for the first time. There are four very good teams to deal with at ECB this year. Does anyone ever remember a year in this age group when there were more than 1 or 2?

It all makes for good discussions but I am not sure ranking them does more than start more arguments. And to be honest, it does not add any benefit.

I do think you see teams fall into 3 categories, though:

National Competitor - Team(s) having the depth to compete with team from all over the country. They will typically play in all of the high end tournaments.

Regional Competitor - Team(s) that will, week in and week out, be in the running for most of the regional tournaments. They may not quite have the depth to compete in a tournament with all National teams, however.

Local Competitors - Team(s) that will be competitive locally, but don't have the depth to venture out too far from the local area, or have to play mostly in the mid-tier tournaments to have a chance to win it all. Depth is their main issue. Typically in quality pitching.

I'm sure some teams in Mammabee's "top 8" would be very happy in the group, and at
least one team would rather see rankings - based on it's perfomance to date. It's early, but there's nothing wrong with ranking teams at any point in time. Unless, of course, you don't like your place.

Thank yall for chatting !

ive seen all those teams most even last weekend that im listing and including the teams you ask about too

so my honest call of the current 8 best teams considering all of em is how I'm listing .

without going to spicifics about coaches and there young baseball players whom im thrilled to see playing that great sport.

remember now its not really of much importance in the big picture

Mammabee,
Just curious as to the rationale of having the Forsyth Outlaws, Kennesaw Mustangs, and Team Gwinnett on the list but not Prospot.
loveforthegame25 Posted - 04/09/2009 : 19:46:08
How bout waiting til the end of April to rank teams. Mama your top 8 is missing a couple teams, Pro Spot and Combat to name a couple. TOO EARLY TO HAVE A LEGIT RANKING

Powder Springs went 3-1. I love the breakdown of teams. Anyone that gets mad at this is in it for the wrong reasons. I will give a top ten for fun also, however I will leave my team out of the top ten.
1. EAST COBB ASTROS-best team we have played this year!
2. BULDOG BASEBALL-second best team we played this year. I know they had a bad week-end, but all will see when the dust settles.
3. EAST COBB STALLIONS-have not played them, but they looked strong.
4. P.C. VIPERS-sooner or later they will hit their stride.
5. EAST COBB COMBAT-just seems like a dangereous team!
6. (*&^%^$%-no comment
7.OUTLAW BASEBALL-I know they haven't played in the three mentioned tournaments, but they are probably the third best team we've played.
8. PRO SPOT FITNESS-a good team that is solid throughout. The fifth best team we've played.
9. TEAM GWINNETT-never seen or played them, just going off their record.
10. SANDY SPRINGS LONGHORNS-just going off the tournament criteria, otherwise I would put FORSYTH OUTLAWS!
If you count the P.C. Vipers scrimmage game, we have played 5 of the top 10 on this list and I am sure it will change in about 3 weeks. FOR FUN YA'LL!!!!!!!!!

Hobgood Heat played the USTBA Tournament without their 3 hitter and Key Left handed pitcher. Look for them to make a move over the next month or so.
