Alot of talk about the best 10U teams in Georgia. There are a few teams getting under the radar because they played football in the fall or didn't play as a team. Who else we got?

Sandtown
ECB Tigers
Gresham Park
Expect a relatively unknown team out of Augusta,GA to make some noise
Georgia Grip or Millcreeek anyone know if the Grip is still together

I think Mill Creek Red will do fine. Knowing this is a very young team makes me excited to know we may be watching a team in the next few years that will give a lot of teams something to worry about. What happens when they get some experience. What I have seen is they have a few coaches along with the head coach that have more time in travel. As someone said on a post, hitting will be their strong point, when I saw them, they have power hitters, speed on the bases, deeper pitching than most teams, and do not make a lot of mistakes. They do not have to rely on one or two hard throwing pitchers to win, they do it with depth. We have seen many teams with a couple of hard throwing pitchers and not win any more tournaments than this team. I like the team. I am sure there are a few others that are solid. I saw the Forsyth Slugfest and the Duluth team placing 4th was impressive. Should make for a great summer of baseball.

Didn't I hear Mill Creek Red just beat Midway something like 26-10 in 3 innings? This is with the team they got on draft day. No hired guns on the team. I see this all the time. How can we say a team is ranked high in these polls when many of them are using patch teams at times to play in tournaments? If a team were to call themselves Misfits and have 3-4 players from the Major Wraths and 3-4 from ECB and get beat by yes...the Mill Creek Red team by a score of 9-2 in the Winder shootout this weekend, then how can we accurately rank a team. I believe if we are going to rank a team, we should rank them where they are playing with their main squad, not what they do when they get a few hired guns. I was at the tournament this weekend when I saw a Tri County Hawks team play and when I got a closer look, it was the Mill Creek Red team with a couple of players from the other Mill Creek team. I agree with BMoser, if they combined teams for good, we would not be thinking about EC teams at all. This team is strong, even with their base team. Add a couple of players and they would be very tough to beat.

Clubhouse - Homerunking's list was just a list of who was playing in a tournament, not his ranking. He simply cut-and-paste it from the tourney website.

if ANYONE had the Duluth Wilcats as your sleeper, please stand up!

I stand corrected based on this weekends results, ECB Scorpians are the real deal.

Fella's, I was watching while the bulldogs/longhorns scrimmage was going on. I know it was the first time the longhorns had been on the field this year and they were missing 4 kids that were on vacation, had one kid playing with a cast on his left hand wearing a left handed glove on his right hand to catch with, then would throw down the glove swap the ball into the right hand and throw and had to bunt everytime. They picked up 2 kids that had never played kid pitch before to fill out the field just to have enough to scrimmage. I think it was 6-5 after 4 innings.

Not taking anything away from the bulldogs because they played better than I have ever seen them play. But I would hardly call that Shutting Down The Longhorns .

Didnt a brand new AA Mill Creek team who never played together as a team with a rookie coach do quite well against the Scorpions in the Fall? I think Mill Creek exterminated those nasty bugs twice.

jscoda,i think bulldogs will be an average team, and just because they won a tournament with 3 teams in it doesnt make them an elite team though.but i did hear that they pretty much shutdown the longhorns lastweek in a game .

Those scores combined with the longhorns post sure doesn't scream average to me. Surely the longhorns aren't an average team. We all know that nobody can measure up to the Scorpions though.LOL

Played the bulldogs not long ago. Solid...good job coach.

Are the Tigers even playing??? They're not in the Spring Frost or NIT. For an elite team....you would think they would be playing against the best. And it looks like the best is at the Spring Frost!

At North Gwinnett Bulldogs, the Black is initially the A team and Red is B, but it can flip as time goes by and turnover occurs. The 12u Bulldogs Red have overtaken Black and are now the A team and Black is B. I love it when that happens.

ballboy5

There are some teams in North Georgia and Tennessee capable of playing good baseball. The Cougars have put together a nice team and the Knoxville Stars can compete with anyone but truth is the real competition is to be found in East Cobb and Atlanta area. These first few tournaments look more like the year ending World Series than early Spring tournaments. We honestly expect to have our hands full all year long but I would rather lose more games in this type competition than win at the weaker tournaments as I feel we will be a better team down the road because of it. By the way our Coaches feel the same way about the tougher competition so we won't be surprised by the extra losses.

Baseballpapa, since you are with the Bandits, are there any other teams up in North Georgia or in the Southern Tennessee area that may be under the radar, and may be able to suprise some teams by putting up a few good games?
BBall123 Posted - 02/16/2009 : 07:47:08
OK ? I "SAW" it. The inability to hit quality pitching "CAUSED" it.

Just got home from watching Acworth play Oregon Park, I wouldn't put either team in the top 5 of East Cobb Teams, but both are very similar and both played it like a scrimmage game, letting kids work.

Coach Mark,

Good idea and I hope everyone takes your advice on this.
baseball99 Posted - 02/14/2009 : 21:52:40
I agree 100% about the kids' names. This is supposed to fun for them, first and foremost. As for taking the other poster too seriously, you are probably right there too. In fact, I take everyone seriously until they prove to me that I shouldn't !!

This all sound impressive but some of what you have here tells me that you are making your predictions based on things that are no longer true regarding some of these teams. In particular, the info regarding Mill Creek and Parkview.

Mill Creek has two teams now and 2 of the park's best players left to play elsewhere. Both of the teams that remain are, at best, 5 travel players strong and the rest of the roster would be hard pressed to make a travel team in East Cobb.

Parkview was probably the 3rd best team in Gwinnett last year and they lost their best player.

Collins Hill or Mill Creek Red will the the best team in Gwinnett and Norcross may surprise everyone and take that title. Even with that said, none of these teams will compete for any Triple Crown title unless they draw an easy path through a bracket. PTB Elite (not at full strength) spanked the Mill Creek team last fall in the championship game of a tourney in Hampton. It was obvious they were from two different classes.

It's interesting to read anyway.

I think you might be taking Hawkeye a little too seriously. In one post, he says he doesn't know anything about ECB teams and in the next post he ranks them. Looks to me like he's just trying to stir things up on the board. While it's entertaining, he might not even know anything about 10U in Georgia. At least it appears that way to me.

One request I have of all posters when predicting. Please keep the players names from being posted on this board. I am not talking about statements like "the catcher from the Bombers" because that gives us all an idea of something to look for when we attend these tournaments. But please refrain from mentioning the players names (not that anyone has done this). These kids are way to young to have that kind of pressure added to what is already more serious than it should be at this age.
