In the 10U group, there were several oversites. They didn't look at the Fall results at all. I realize Fall is what it is, but I cannot agree with ignoring it altogether. They did a pretty good job with Majors, but placed a lot of teams in AAA that should not be there.

They should have a Coaches panel to assist them with this. Its obvious that they cannot keep up with the volume of teams on their own.

ALLSTAR,
I'm attuned to it because my son's team really enjoys the USSSA environment, and particularly the State Qualifiers, States, and if we're good enough, the World Series. I think USSSA's classifications provides a great format for teams of varying skills to match up with each other. If my son was a top player on a major class team, I wouldnt care. If he keeps playing year round, working hard, and getting the level of instruction he's received this year, he'll overcome his late April birthdate, and reach the highest level. Until then, class matters.

ALLSTAR,
Personally, I'd prefer for both these teams to remain AA, because my son's team is in AAA, and either one would be more than a handful for his team, but its more an overall fairness issue. I want USSSA to be as good as it can be...don't you? I don't think either of these Coaches are sandbagging, I think they just didn't realize how strong their teams were. They know now though, and kudos to them. I love to see new teams come along and shake things up like this. There are several teams in the wrong place, but these were the most obvious due to their recent tourney results. I was also trying to make a point that USSSA needs to review Fall results and take them into consideration to some extent before re-classifying. Do you agree?

beat EC Scorpions 9-2 (major team)
beat Parkview 7-2 (AA team)
beat Parkview 9-7
beat EC Scorpions 5-4
lost to the Albany Stixx in Championship game 18-2

The Albany Stixx returned the next TC tourney to win again and beat the Bandits. So the Cyclones are 11-3, 2 losses to a 11U Major team, and 1 loss to one of Georgia's top Majors teams. Doesn't look like a AA team to me. i see them as a high AAA or low Major.

Just curious why you care so much?

The only ranking I care about is ours and only to the extent that it allows or disallows us from playing certain tournaments. Only about 25% of the tournaments that we play in will be USSSA and 1/2 of them will be Open.

We will play anybody and the only reason that I look at their USSSA info is to see how they fared against other teams that I might know something about.

As far as Fall goes, it's been my (limited) observation that the Fall versions of most teams bear little resemblance to the Spring versions. That may vary with age groups.

Comming out of Cleveland, TN these are the teams that we will see most as we will play mostly local tournaments at a AA level in the Chattanooga/Northwest Ga area.

Anyone know about Northwest GA. teams? We all know the Bandits will be strong, but what about North Ga Cougars, I hear they will have the same team as lat year no changes. I also hear that the North Ga Lightning have picked up 3-4 new players that are suppose to be studs. I am not sure about the Stingrays. And does anyone know about the Chattanooga teams. I hear there is a new team in Hixson suppose to be good. And lastly, is there any info on the Chattanooga Chiefs?

North Forty Fall Classic (source: USSSA web site)
Mill Creek Hawks-Red 15 East Cobb Scorpions 9
Mill Creek Hawks-Red 11 PTB - The Elite 10
Mill Creek Hawks-Red 6 East Cobb Scorpions 4
PTB - The Elite 9 Mill Creek Hawks-Red 1

Okay, PTB and the Scorpions were missing a player or two, however, this was the 1st games/tourney Mill Creek-Red has ever played together, and some of them had not played in months due to football.

If there is 1 other blogger out there who honestly sees them as a AA team, I will concede. Well...let's hear your opinion.

Regarding the Columbus... (source: USSSA web site)
Columbus Cyclones 7 HOCO CUBS 6
East Alabama Storm 9 Columbus Cyclones 2
Columbus Cyclones 8 Columbus Young Guns 6
Columbus Cyclones 7 Chain Baseball 5
East Alabama Storm 11 Columbus Cyclones 3
Columbus Cyclones 22 Stealth Bomberz 2
Columbus Cyclones 10 Valley Thunder 2
Columbus Cyclones 16 Stealth Bomberz 2
Columbus Cyclones 10 Georgia Titans 0

Only 2 losses came to a 11u Major team. Anybody feel this is a AA team? If there is anybody out there who was at the East Cobb TC tourney in October where the Cyclones were 2nd, can you tell us who they beat? I was there but cannot recall.

I've seen both the Mill Creek and EC Scorpions at a tournament. Neither one of them impressed me very much. Mill Creek will be near the top of the AA class but would get their tails pounded by the better teams in AAA and Major. By the way, MC only beat ECS by 2 in the semi of that tournament and ECS was beating them handily until the ECS coach left their pitcher in the game too long, only to give up the lead. As I understand it, the ECS team was missing one of their better pitchers (PTB Elite was too) and SS for that tournament while MC was at full strength. In fact, MC's best pitchers gave up, on average, 10 runs per game.

The reason these two slipped through the cracks is because they emerged this Fall, and USSSA totally ignores Fall. They only looked at Spring '08 power rankings. I'll send an e-mail to USSSA and suggest they assess newly formed teams from the Fall season.

BM I was thinking the same thing, Niether one of those teams should be a AA team. They both beat EC Scorpions in the fall twice and Mill Creek had a 16 - 0 lead on the ECS in the 3rd and then beat them by 7 or 8 in the semi of that tourney. and Columbus is a very good team also

Have you spotted any 10U teams that are improperly classified?

I wouldn't want to be a 10U AA team and face the Columbus Cyclones, or Mill Creek Hawks-Red in a State bracket game, that's for sure.
