Posted - 12/05/2008 : 18:26:12 Larger colleges and universities generally have camps and smaller ones generally have showcases. For camps, try http://collegebaseballcamps.com. For showcases, I have found listings on Scouts.com (i.e., http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=37&f=2709) in addition to the sites listed by others above. Also, try the following:
http://www.collegeselect.org http://www.impactbaseball.com/showcase.asp http://www.pro-daybaseball.com/index.html http://teamonebaseball.rivals.com/default.asp
I would also recommend getting your son on a summer showcase team vs. one that is only interested in winning another trophy - key is getting seen.
Lastly, for players 16 years old and older, the MLB has free tryouts - see http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/about_mlb/tryout_faq.jsp for more information. |

Posted - 12/05/2008 : 13:04:25 Showcases, select camps and summer team exposure is the way to go. Check websites of schools, within a reasonable drive, for camp/showcase info. Select camps (for H.S. players) generally occur in July and over Christmas. Showcases; August - November. Attend one or more, of each.
Young Harris has a great local showcase (Oct-Nov), Georgia Middle College runs one (last month) as do tons of other smaller schools (for many smaller schools it's their primary recruiting tool). Go to NCAA website to get lists of Div I thru NAIA schools then check their sites for info. The big Showcases such as Perfect Game have numberous national locations and dates (see their site).
On another suggestion, find a good pitching coach (some are scouts) with college ties/contacts. Recruiting is very much a people/networking business just like most others. |

Many of the participants are parents of current or former college or pro players that give some good advice. There is also a representative on there from Perfect Game that provides a lot of good information as well.
