All: This is the third time in four years we've dealt with the following, so I'd like to know are we just jinxed or is this the norm:
You pay big bucks to play on a team that is portrayed as 15u or 16u or 17u ALL WINTER...with rosters online showing certain kids...but when the time comes you discover that your 16 year old is playing with a couple of 14 year olds or your 15 year old with a TWELVE year old simply because at the end of the day...the team didn't get enough monetary commitments from kids in your correct age group and several of those who remained online ALL WINTER bailed on the team. In order to pay bills, the organizer or coach or academy owner ended up taking whoever would stroke the check.
Now here is the rub: in order to be "FAIR", some positions are shared equally so kids find themselves "sharing" a position with a kid who is younger and not quite as developed.
I'd really like some feedback on this. I'm dismayed. |

You have a trophy hunting coach in this scenario...and guys like that have zero business coaching.

somewhat related but what about teams that add a player very late in the season to replace a player who is out for a few weeks due to injury and the added player is not that good but takes playing time away from the players who have put their heart and soul into the team from the get go. seems to me the coaches should tell the added player he might or might not get playing time. even if the added player were a stud who contributed big time, it is unloyal to the original players and kills team chemistry. |

Agree with Teddy41 My oldest played for 2 Big Named academy programs and similar thing happened at the end of the season. Pulled up a few of the Younger, so called "studs" as well as bring in players from other programs who had an off weekend. The Goal .... Win and keep the Brand name going. They say they are all about development but at the end of the day, they are about the almighty $$$ |

stop playing with the big academy programs only trying to make a name for themself. my son used to get pulled up and i said no as i didnt want to see him pitch and another sit who payed to play |

I can't understand that ! A 16U PG type team should be made up of all 16s same graduating class if possible. Maybe 1 or 2 great 15s. No 14s. |

Can you steer the 12yr old that is able to play on a 15u team my way? We are one player away from being able to beat some of these pesky llu teams that are playing up. |

The only time I would consider this the "norm" is when half your team plays high school and the other half doesn't, as in 13/14....many teams fall apart and have to reorganize due to school ball.
I'm also not sure where the factor of "FAIR" comes into play in 16u or 17u ball, that is recruitment time and if it's a legit team that is showcasing and going to PG events there shouldn't be a FAIR factor there should be an earning your spot factor to be able to show your stuff in front of the people who you need to see it...i.e. scouts, recruiters...etc |

I guess the first question back to you is whether this is with three different organizations, or the same organization three times.
If the latter, shame on you. If the former, sounds like you're jinxed. My sons have played with multiple organizations over the years and never had that happen. I could see it being an issue with new teams that have no history and people not being fully committed, or rural areas without a lot of density of talent and you have to fish across different ages to fill out your roster, but in metro ATL, that certainly shouldn't be the issue. Maybe time for you to hold out on paying your commitment until you see the spring roster in the future. |
