I guess the rumors about the Longhorns are true. Should be some openings available if you are looking for a team.

Scout Day Prospects are like the Georgia Grip, and not aligned with a school cluster/County Park as all the rest of the Gwinnett 10U teams. Thus, they have more potential than GGBL teams. These two independents will compete for recruits. The Grip were wise to base themselves out of Lawrenceville, smack dab in the center of the County, so they can attract talent County-wide. SD Prospects are South-County based, so can't draw from the 6 Northern most clusters.

The Grip scrimmaged Wills Park Sunday, and both teams were closely matched. The Grip were missing 2 regulars, so had 2 more fill-ins than usual. Not sure if Wills Park was at full strength, or not.

All 3 of these teams have strong Coaching, and a lot of commitment behind them. They also have some year round players, which is why they're somewhat active now.

If Collins Hill pops up in a tourney, they could surprise. #1 GGBL 10U team. Take a look at their 11u team's USSSA ranking. Good program.

Bball123, I believe you may be correct. From what I heard, the Scorpions pitcher who pitched agains Kennesaw last weekend was from Holly Springs(formerly Creekview)and he looked impressive. The Holly spring team might be a sleeper team to watch out for.

Hawkeye and Stallion, great assessment of the weekend. Prior to this past weekend's tournament, I read(in this blog site) a lot about the different teams and especially the Longhorns. After I saw the different teams play, I thought the most underrated team was the Scorpions and the most overrated team was the Longhorns. For a team that was suppose to be strong on defense(based on people's assessment in this blog), this Longhorn team threw the ball around like a rec ball team. This team lacked discipline and fundamentals. I was impressed with the 2 home runs from 2 different players, but other than that this Longhorn team looked like a glorified rec ball team. I was actually surprised this team came from ECB.

Yes ,And when you add the Former Astros (now Tigers) And the Columbus team in the mix It should be a great season.
There is also a little known team that made a good showing in the state last year (creekview) now the holly springs express that will be right in the middle of the pac this year.

I got to see a few games this weekend and here's my assessment, for what it's worth:

1. Stixx/Bandits - I couldn't really put one of these teams over the other. They are very similar. Great pitching. Great defense. Smaller kids that just know how to play baseball. Their success really shows how important good coaching is.

3. Kennesaw - Solid team with few weaknesses, but not quite at the level of Stixx/Bandits. Little disappointed in some of the new players performance this weekend, but they could be rusty.

4. 643 - They went out early, but they got beat by the Stixx & Bandits. I would have guessed they would have competed better in both games than they did. Having said that, they have a lot of new kids that I'm sure will improve with good coaching and will be a top team in the Spring.

5. Scorpions - The big surprise of the tournament. They beat Kennesaw but did it with a Pitcher who isn't on their team. I would put them equal to Kennesaw if he was full time. Good defense. Solid hitting. Good pitching.

6. Longhorns - I believe this team has been accurately described on this board. I think they hit at least a couple of HRs so they definitely have some big hitters. They do seem a bit disfunctional which is too bad for the kids.

7. Scout Day - Typical Gwinnett that has some good coaching, but not enough top players. Is this team associated with a feeder school or are they like the Georgia Grip and trying to build a more traditional travel team? Bmoser do you know?

The first 5 all appear to be the the top teams for 2009. Disappointed that I didn't get to see S. Forsyth, Wills Park, or Jaguars. S. Forsyth can play and haven't been talked about much on this board. Wills Park is a roller coaster team that can be very good on the right day. Also would like to see Sandtown, Grisham Park, and Chili Dogs to see where they fit in the mix. Midway is another team that can win on a given day. I believe some of the Rome players are now playing with Scorpions so I wouldn't expect a lot from them but who knows.

BBall123

I only really watched one game this weekend the longhorns vs. scorpions. The one I watched the Longhorns won. They had a lot of power but everything else you said was spot on. The good news for the longhorns is that stuff if fixable at least the defense and baserunning. They should win some games. I thought the scorpions even though losing the game I watched played fundamentally good and the last pitcher they used in that game came in and kept it close. I liked the scorpions SS and the third base coach they got is pretty good I thought.

Looks like the upcoming Spring will be a blast at the 10U level. It was a treat seeing this many of best teams in the south play in a fall tournament. Where you can see teams like Stixx and Bandits who have been competing all fall a step ahead now. I expect more from the others (longhorns, Kenn, 643, scorpions) in the spring as they get more in game shape. I was most impressed by Kenn saw who hasn't been playing stepping up and playing a great game against Stixx. I think come spring Kenn wins this game. I also think come spring 643 will be ready to bring it as well. Shame to hear issues already coming up with the Longhorns. I hope its not true. The coaches and families need to remember this is 10U baseball not the end of the world. We all have more to learn from a loss than a win and kids learn from actions of adults. All sports help build character. Both good and bad character.
I love this game....

Here is the scoop. What a great weekend for baseball. I saw almost every game. I was very impressed with the scorpions. Good little scrappy team. They do not have a whole lot of talent but well coached and they fight, a lot of weak arms on team. They remind me of 643 last year. Very good defensive team. Kid in right field, made great plays and saved game against Kennesaw. Overall competitive team. Upswing limited.

643 under achieved, Pitching not as great as everyone thought but a lot of talented kids, they do not hit very well but I think danny will fix that, I think the way they move kids around that in big games it will be hard for them to win. I was a little dissapointed on their showing this weekend. I still think that they are a major player because of danny's coaching. That kid from Kennesaw is a game changer with his bat. I think that next year danny will have to add more hitters. Huge upswing.

Longhorns, probably the most athelitic team, very obvious that they are not practicing. I hear that they maybe lost the big kid who hit one of those monster blast. Coaches if you need a clean up hitter, start making your calls. They have five or six kids that can flat out hit. They need to work on defense and pitching. Very strong arms on team. Very Big kids. Huge upswing.

Kennesaw, lost to scorpions and beat longhorns, did not look good in either game. Played a great game against stixx. Hitting not as good as one would think, pitching was ok. I think they are falling back in the pack. I also think that they have not practiced alot. They are going to have to continue to make upgrades to stay competitve. Surprise by their lost to the scorpions. I bet they were also. Good upswing.

Stixx, have not seen kids much. But very good team. They hit well. Great pitching and excellent defense. It is amazing that they have only been playing for a couple of months together. I think this team will be the major player this year. Keep your eye on this team, they can only get better. Huge upswing.

Bandits, still a very good team. I think that if they keep coming down to this area, they will have a few more losses this year. Hitting not as good as one would think. But that big kid is a beast at hitting. Pitching: i think the kids are catching up with their stud pitchers now.

Overall, expect some good ball next year and most of these team will be able to beat each other. I saw some very good defensive teams(scorpions, stixx, bandits). Good hitting teams(stixx and longhorns). Godd Pitiching(stixx,bandits,643).

sounds like a good tournament. great weather too.

i heard 643 had some injuries and some other players were playing football so some teams were not 100%

am sure nobody would quit a team in fall ball
pcc Posted - 10/26/2008 : 20:47:00
The STIXX aren't cheating. They are the same team they are going to run with this season. They are an allstar team from their area with one boy from the Bayside Bombers who is a great player. They have only been together for 2 months and 5 Tournaments and the Bandits are the only team to beat them and they came back and beat them for the championship. They looked great to me. Kennesaw looked good in the game against them and had the lead until the bottom of the sixth when they tied it up and had a 3 run lead against them before giving up 4 in the bottom of the seventh. The Scorpions played well and Scout Day was pretty impressive for a AA team. 6-4-3 still has a great team, they just played some of the tougher teams in the state. The Longhorns have a lot of work to do in the field and on the mound.

There was some great ball at this tournament. Winners of games that some may not have expected....Scorpions beat Kennesaw 8-5 in pool play. Who expected 6-4-3 to go home so quickly?
C. MORTON Posted - 10/26/2008 : 14:30:22
I have only seen the Bandits play. Last year they played and won 1 10u tournaments and came in 2nd in another losing to the 10 Chattanooga Colonels, whom they beat in pool play. These kids could play 11u if they wanted and compete with most teams they run into..Doesn't look like the Longhornd or the 6-4-3 are ready to go to battle yet.
C. MORTON Posted - 10/25/2008 : 15:59:33
BANDITS are for real
BBall123 Posted - 10/24/2008 : 12:08:29
No not to old, just not really on their team.If its not then it is for sure really bending the rules! why even have a roster? why not just build a team for each tourney depending on what you need? I bet the other 6 teams in this thing will play with a real roster.

I see a few teams got cold feet when they saw the competition there. Looks like it is down to 7 teams now. 6 4 3 beat Longhorns in a scrimmage, I move them up some now.
1st Boynton,
2nd 6 4 3
3rd Stixx
4th Kennesaw

How did K.E. get that draw in pool play? They have the best shot at finishing as the first seed. That will be a big advantage to have a bye.

It was 6-4-3. I was there,my kid was at the atp fall practice. Let me tell you what I saw. 643 came out to make a point, they pitched their best pitchers. When their pitchers got in trouble they brought in someone else. It look like the longhorns stayed with their pitchers. I know I saw the long horn pitchers walk at least ten batters. And we left after three innings.
It look to me like the longhorns were sandbagging. I think 643 is the better team but if you were there the longhorn were doing some strange things. I did not see some of their better players pitch. You could tell that they were putting kids in positions that they had no clue. They even had that big kid form Milton batting last. Trust me it was wierd. This weekend will be interesting.
