Why do you think some teams are still not full at the 13U EC age group when there were almost 200 kids at the tryout??? Curious to hear opinions....

I prefer Cougars definition: "jockeying for position"

There is about a 4 week period every year when it is this way. Next will come the discussion about which teams will be the best. Especially when rosters are released. Arguments about whether teams should be playing AAA or Major based on their new rosters. The teams that kept most of their team in tact will feel they are in the best situation because they have a lot of returning players, whereas the teams that have been built anew will feel they have put components together to be stronger. The arguments will go on because until you get on the field, there is no way to prove it.

It's the baseball circle of life.

All this travel ball jockeying for position is unbelieveable. Try wrestling, work your rear end off, enter the tournament and whip or get whipped. I love baseball but this is nuts.

Well isn't that nice?!?!?! Good thing it is not up to you (and LORD help us all if it is) to decide which sport a child should play. If a kid loves to play baseball, then he should play (maybe not at the travel level) but SHAME ON YOU for saying that they should find another sport!!!! And if a kid wants to come to a tryout, no one should tell him he can't or shouldn't...in fact I say good for him for having the courage to stand in front of a bunch of coaches and peers (and unfortunately people like you) and trying to do what he loves. Again, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

Some may be struggling to get in touch with the players they remember seeing but were not able to talk to before everyone left.

There are teams that are still holding tryouts and take a 2nd or 3rd look at players.

The EC draft is Monday night for the 13's so teams will be full by then. If a player has not heard from a team by then, they probably did not make one of these teams. (even though there may be a few that get calls right after the tryout when coaches see they did not make a team)

There are also players that came out just to see if they could make one of the top teams. If not they were going back to their old team.

Old School: What do you mean by "the EC draft is Monday night for the 13s?" What draft?? Is this something other than the clinic last weekend or the private tryouts/practices the teams may be having post clinics???

could it be that there were a lot of 13 year olds at the tryout that should be looking for another sport to "play"?

Maybe because it is sooooo difficult (I'd even say virtually impossible) to judge the athletic ability of ANY player based on approx 20 minutes of field time during an 8 hour "tryout" (clinic...whatever). How a coach can claim to accurately assess the true ability of a player when they are trying to migrate from field to field a "see" all 200 clinic participants? Of course there will be some standouts during those 20 minutes, but maybe a player had a "brain fart" during the 10 seconds a coach saw him as he walked by the fence and he is now judged "less desirable". Forget trying to hang out and actually watch him play...you have 199 other people to try and "see". Perhaps some teams are not willing to pick players until they have a chance to hold a "post ECB tryout" tryout to take a more comprehensive look at those who attended the clinic. Those who chose right after this "tryout" already knew who they wanted beforehand...either by rep or how early they hit puberty or having seen them play last year...let's not be coy fellas!

Keep in mind, for the most part this post is just a guess!

Good luck to all!
