Posted - 09/30/2008 : 15:45:18 BMOC, As beanball said, Daddy ball never goes away, but it does become a lot easier to find the opportunities that are absent of this type of team management. Also, the coaches that manager their teams that way have had several years of visibility and the good players tend to move away from them.
I believe there are a lot of dads that just "don't know what they don't know". They believe they can coach, and get out there with all the best intentions in the world, and then realize that there's more to it than just running 9 players out on the field and letting them play. Especially when it comes to pitching. |

I agree with beanball I've heatd that many high school fall teams are coached by freshmen dads |

Posted - 09/27/2008 : 23:20:02 I agree with you BMOC. I have seen a team that has about 4-5 boys on the team. If their dads weren't the coaches. They wouldn't even make another team at all. Cause of that reason you said daddy ball. My child will never play on a team again. Were their is only 1 or 2 Dad's as coaches again. |

Daddy ball is never over. YOu just need to get used to it and make sure your son does not play the same position as the coaches's sons. Some teams are better than others but its will exist at all age groups. |

Posted - 09/25/2008 : 09:59:27 That is very true.
What is important in my eyes , to keep the young men playing ball even when the larger field passes their competitive potential by.
No other sport do I know that teaches more lessons about life ahead !!! |

Boy Coachdan, wouldn't that open up a can of worms. Who even knows where to start with that. Subjectivity out the wazoo.
but , next couple years on the larger fields is going to really open some eyes , might even knock off some rose colored glasses

Posted - 09/03/2008 : 20:56:12 I think there are 4 in the 9's: Team ECB Braves Vipers Raptors
I think there are 4 in the 10's as well: former Astros Longhorns Scorpions Bulldogs
These are in no particular order. |

Posted - 09/03/2008 : 15:47:10 Im glad to hear that resolved.
For one crazy moment I thought we were going to start even 'ranking' the ecb players themselves .

Posted - 09/03/2008 : 15:44:16 Easy guy's - knowing Lomax, "order" was a figure of speech and not of MEASURE. He wouldn't drop that type of bomb right smack dab in the baseball community :) |

Posted - 09/03/2008 : 12:27:10 Jay, Apparently I have too much going on these days and not getting good intel. . I wonder if all those younger teams will be planning to practice at EC or have alternate locations. Also, I wonder if EC will still be using the field at Pope for the younger teams. I am not sure how booked that ever got.
13UECBparent2, My reference to ordering was simply first based on what came to mind, then I thought about ascending or decending. There was no attempt to imply pecking order in any manner. No one should disagree that we will never know the order until teams get on the field, and then it becomes subjective, anyway. |

Posted - 09/03/2008 : 09:38:18 Greg, You're typically very informed. I'm surprised you've tripped up so much in recent days. The word is that there are actually more younger teams than last year (84-85 up from 71?). Looks like 1 new 12U, 2 new 11U's, 5 new 8-10's.

Sorry about that. I started changing my mind on the order half way through. My apologies to the Combat team. The omission was definately not intended.
Practice time will work itself out. As usual there will be practice time over at Mt. Bethel as well as at EC.
There was the rumor of less younger age teams this next year. If so, that could shift the 11U's to fields 7 & 8 more while the 12 use field 4 and share field 6 with the 13U's. Not to mention, until HS ball is out, there may be opportunities on field 3 up top.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Not sure what you mean by "order," greglomax. Not sure that you can order the teams when they haven't even started playing yet. Other than the Astros maybe, the best way might have been alpha order. Not sure that your opinion to how they should be "ordered" is either accurate or fair. IMHO, that is. |
