Son went to a small workout/tryout on Tuesday. Coach told all that he would let them know by email in a few days if he wanted to see them again. As people were leaving, coach called a few over including my son. He told them that they had definitely made the team and if they wanted a spot it was theirs. According to my son, coach said he would get official emails in the next few days. There is still a larger tryout as this is a team that is part of a larger organization. Coach said they still needed to registration for the bigger tryout but that they didn't have to go to the tryout (my son is going to go). Question is, it's Fri. and we still haven't gotten the "official email." Is this normal? Should we be concerned? Was this a real commitment from the team? |

Thanks for the comments. As to why I haven't called, this is an over 13U team. My son sent a follow up email yesterday around 5 asking about next steps. He hasn't heard back. |

No it's not normal. How old is your son. If he is 12 or below it's odd the conversations weren't with you. If it's 13 or older then it's normal for the kid to get the offer. Why haven't you simply called them and asked????? |

Ask him. Prob should inform parents of such an offer as well not just the players. |

Ask/email the coach. I'd consider it a "real" offer, if the coach verbally extended an offer. You could email to ask again, for clarification "Does my son HAVE to attend the organization tryout, since he was already on the team?" This would break the ice for communication. You could further ask, "Your verbal asking us WAS an offer, correct? As we didn't get any 'official' email." But I'd assume what coach will tell you will read something like this, "Oh, sorry, I didn't email you all due to the fact that I made my verbal offer. When I said I'd be emailing everyone, that was for those we were either going to decline or were on the fence."
The coach may be more concerned with declining boys, scheduling other individual workouts, and figuring out if he wants to call back (second look) any kids from this tryout, much less worrying about the 'organizations' tryout. |

I would email or call the coach to make sure he has the correct contact information and to let him know you have not seen the email. |
