Thoughts on a tournament director also being the coach of a team in that tournament?
Does it cause an unfair advantage to that team? What if the coach announces to the umpires that he is the TD?

We have played in a Super NIT this past fall and Global World Series last week that had the same TD as a headcoach, we beat them in the championship game of the Super NIT and he asked for our Elite 32 Berth before we even left the field after the awards ceremony, he had a call go against him this week in the world series and asked the umpire "why am I paying you!!!" A real class act.

Had no clue going into the tourney that the TD was also coaching. Only found out when he announced it on the field for all to hear.
Not complaining, asking the community what they think about it.
BTW, his team won the championship but I do not think this had anything to do with it, the team is excellent and earned it.

Well, if you knew it going in...why complain now (if you are complaining)?

Good point, had not thought about division of attention factoring in.........

Agreed. Seems kind of bush league.

I would think a TD would not want to coach his own team during the tourney to prevent any appearance of impropriety.

Not sure about this, but if it was a really big tournament either the team, or the tournament, would suffer if his attention was divided. I probably would have turned the reins over to an assistant and focused on the tournament.

It was not a small, team run fundraiser. It was a major tournament on par with a USSSA World Series or a TC major event.
I will not say they received preferential treatment but the fact that the coach announced to the umpires, during a debated call, that he was the TD just seemed wrong. I would think a TD would not want to coach his own team during the tourney to prevent any appearance of impropriety.

If a team is running a tournament as a fundraiser, then you would expect the coach is probably going to be the TD as well.

Do you think they got some home cooking or something?
