Could someone please help me understand why my sons coach would want to hire another coach ($5000)to go to the elite 24. This guy must be a miracle coach or something. How can this be an advantage for the team when the head coach who has been working with boys all season, just steps out of the way for miracle coach just because he is hired. Is it me, or is this one of the stupidest moves you've ever heard?

That is Dumb I agree with you why hire some guy for one Tournament.
I hope you Parents didn't play any more money for this.

Its where the lost focus has taken place. Its YOUTH baseball. Just because you play on a travel team or you compete in the Elite 24 doesn't mean you are going to be the next best player.. or you are going to replace Bobby Cox. Its YOUTH baseball. Not hating on it. I am all for good strong competition but lets be realistic and take a reality check.

They pick up the best hitters and picthers off of the other teams that didn't make it and pay their way. It's not right!

Wait a minute. Do you say that families pay money all year to play ball and win a berth to this tournament then out of that money comes expenses to bring in ringers or "additions" that play for free on the others pocketbook? Who?

That is my big gripe sandlot. I believe when you win a Super NIT and get your berth your roster is locked for the players playing with you in that tournament. In order to add players you have to follow the guidelines of replacing one player with another and only adding players that have been released from their previous roster. I realize that some people cannot travel due to football, school, being out too much already, etc., so there are going to be reasons to make changes to the roster but there needs to be some control.

The whole USSSA system is broken. The way things work it does not allow teams to compete on a level playing ground because seeding tournaments favor the top teams @ the major level. We've stoped playing USSSA tourneys for that reason. More teams should do the same.

Is "Miracle" coach bringing 5-6 recruits with him? Is your son going to see any playing time with "Miracle" coach? This is a simialr conversation that took place on this board about a year ago in the 12U age group. Would not be surprised if the same coach is involved. Take a look at his current record -- has any players left his team? Just be very careful, some of these "Miracle" coaches are out for their personal ego -- as well as the $$$ -- not the well being of the players. I'd prefer to loose 100 games before I allow my son to play for one of them.

So what happens when they win? Do they get to visit the White House. Even if they go 8 - 0 and pitch 8 perfect games and everybody hits a home run ... why does it matter that much? I will say that if that's how they want to spend their money it's a free country go for it. I just can't see the reason for it and how one guy will change the habits of 11 - 12 players that quickly.

Dumbest thing I've ever heard, but hey if anyone wants to hire me for a tournament, I'll do it at 50% off $2500. you know P T Barnam said "there's a sucker born every minute

I wouldn't pay bobby cox 5K to help coach for one tournament. Let alone one whole season. The biggest advantage to having a hired coach would be practice time throughout the season.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS for a whole lot of reasons.
greglomax Posted - 05/06/2008 : 17:15:28
That's a lot of money for one tournament, wouldn't you say? That is potentially $500 per family. Not to mention the travel.

Now, I don't know all the details, so it is easy to have these questions, but this would have to rank higher on the question scale than paying for 3 or 4 additional players to go with you. At least with the players you would get arms and bats.

Could be a lot of reasons - lack of confidence (probably not), pressure from some parents to win - probably.
