Can a runner use his hands or elbows to intentionally knock the ball out of the catchers glove when trying to score? Is there a GA High School rule prohibiting this? If there is a rule, is it ever enforced? |

Doesn't sound like there was an actual "collision" as much as the runner trying to knock the ball out of the glove. What's the difference with a runner trying the knock the ball out of a glove while running from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to third? The runner doesn't want to be called out from running out of the base line, so does he give up to the tag, or does he run hard in his line, and maybe flex an elbow or lower a shoulder into the glove in hopes of the ball coming loose? |

Coach did chew ump, but he said he didn't see it. The ball going into the air should have been a sign. Lesson learned by the catcher. |

sounds like it or the umpire might not have been in a good position to see it? If it was my sons HS coach he would have been chewing on the umpire over it. |

Was watching a tied middle school game bottom of 6th, runner on 3rd was tagged out, he elbows catchers glove, then uses his hands to knock the ball out, then ump calls him safe because catcher loses ball. The runner never tried to slide, basically just ran into tag then aggressively knocks the ball out of the glove. Bad ump call. |

Are you instructing or a father of a catcher.
Rule:
ALL players are required to avoid collision with another player while running the bases. A legal slide will be judged as an attempt to avoid collision. If, in the opinion of the umpire, the runner does not make an effort to avoid collision, he is to be declared out. If the act is deemed by the umpire to be malicious, the runner will be ejected from the game. |
