I am always amazed at parents wanting to post on who is the top team at what age group? some as early as 8? 9? does anyone care? these will be the same parents who stare at PG rankings to see where their kids are ranked. Why grown ups would even want to participate in a thread like that is crazy. At age 8/9/10 its not even about how many wins or who has the best team. Let the kids 1. have fun 2. learn the game the best they can. Kids can barely read and write by this age but you want to discuss who has the best team. LOL never fails. Somehow parents turn the kids game into their game.

Both answers are right. It doesn't matter, but it's fun to talk about.

More fun when the boys actually start "settling" it on the field. Harmless fun.

I don't see a problem with it. Like this whole board it's for fun, entertainment mostly with a little advice on the side and mostly just opinions. If it wasn't a big deal then why would USSSA and other websites have a rankings list. Why would you put your son in travel baseball and play in tournaments where winning is rewarded, winner continue to play teams that win and if you don't win you go home. I always wanted to know who were the better teams so when my son's teams played these teams I could see how his team and he competed against them. It also gives you an idea of what kind of coaching it out there, not saying the best teams always have the best coaches, but some times they do, especially if the continue to win year after year. It amazes me how people try and separate education and sports and think it's ok to compare or rank schools based on Test Scores etc, but when it comes to sports it's frowned upon. Same for getting private lessons in baseball, vs a tutor for math or reading. I am talking more about 12U and up not really 8 and 9 year old baseball.

In reply to the perfect game rankings,
Why do they have a Valedictorian in high schools, or graduating with honors? I imagine if your son is Valedictorian of his high school when he is a senior you might sit and stare at that a little bit or brag a little bit about it. If my son was ranked in PG (which he isn't and probably wont ever be) yeah I would be proud of that and probably print it out for a scrap book or something. I think that shows that a kid put in the time and work to accomplish something, so that is a huge honor. Does it mean they are going to play college or professional baseball probably not.
We all know it shouldn't be about winning baseball games at the early ages it should be about fundamentals and starting that love for the game, but one big reason we have our kids play baseball is it reflects life and life lessons. One of them being failure, resilience, working hard and putting in work to get better.
I am not disagreeing with your post and think it has a great deal of merit. It their game and shouldn't be about the parents at all.

Turntwo, talk about whatever you want - that's what this forum is for. Lots of great info from dads just like yourself. BTW, who cares if dads talk about there team or others or who's the best team. It's very entertaining to say the least. This forum wouldn't be right without the topic of "who's the best team". Have fun and enjoy it!

From a new dad to the travel game, I'm excited. Sorry. Actually, I won't apologize for my anxiousness and enthusiasm. I posted a thread in the 8U section asking about top teams. Do I really care? Nope, the games will play themselves out. But having close friends and family members get to experience this more competitive atmosphere, and finally getting our taste, I'm just ready. However silly it may seem for 8U, oh well. I'm sure when my boy is 12 and older, I may be a little more jaded and find it ridiculous too. But remember, you were once there (or here for myself and my boy).
