With the new Lake Pointe going into operation this summer will it pull a lot of the top talent from most of all the other programs? Will it pull the top coaches, directors, and staff to help accommodate this mega facility? There billing this as probably the biggest facility on the East Coast. With Perfect Game head quartering there and likes of Bobby Cox and company will this facility draw talent from the whole East Coast? Are coaches, players and facilitators already getting the "call"? What will happen with most of these other top programs when everybody starts getting the call? Anybody have any input?

Well, I'm finally going to get a chance to go to the Lakepointe complex. Son's college team is playing there on Wednesday night, so I'm going to watch. This complex came along a couple years too late for him to benefit on the travel ball scene, but at least he'll get there for a college game. Looking forward to it.

I couldn't imagine a facility such as this NOT being the home of travel teams (soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball, etc). I doubt it will be 'ran' by LakePointe, but like some many other organizations, I'm sure the discussion will go something like this, "Oh, you want to practice on our fields 2-3 times a week, and you'll pay us $1,200 +/- a 'season' to do so? And this would generate possibly xyz in additional revenue, all for using our fields, when nothing else is scheduled, and calling yourself the 'LakePointe Lookouts'? Where do we sign? And how many MORE teams can we sign up?"

Well, that didn't take long... http://www.perfectgame.org/PGYouth/default.aspx

Although there will be optional practices throughout the fall and winter, it is expected that baseball be the players primary sport March through August. Players will have the ability to practice, participate in clinics and programs oriented in baseball specific speed, agility and strength throughout the year. Mandatory twice a week practices will begin in March with our first tournament scheduled in late March. Teams will also participate in a Fall Baseball League for those players able to commit.

I went Tuesday night, was drinking a water at the gate and told I could not bring it in.

I haven't been there, but have heard some feedback on another website. My understanding is that it was ok to bring water in, just had to put it in your bag and you'd be OK. That has now changed according to Jerry Ford, owner of PG. He said they all agreed - PG and the company who they lease the facilities from - to allow water and drinks into the facility.

As far as the $10, it has always been that to get into a PG event. My son had been going to them since 2009 and it has always cost $10 to get into one as a spectator. Remember, this is a project that is in process, it's not complete yet. As time goes on, I think there will be changes made, more stores and concessions available and the area around it will grow. Overall, it sounds pretty impressive. Kind of wish it was around when my son was still doing PG events. May have to take a trip out there just to watch a few games soon.

The list goes on - free water in dugout (that's warm) and $10 for ice......lol

I don't know that molded cleats are better than turfs (my son's going to use his turfs this week), and I'd think you could buy those locally in a 14 (we didn't have to start going online until he got to size 15).

I wouldn't be surprised if you get a molded cleat in a 14 at Dick's or wherever either, especially if a football cleat is close enough to work.

SasquatchFeet.com

Sorry, couldn't resist

Actually, we go to largefeet.com. They are in downtown Atlanta and carry sizes 14 to 22. We have actually seen some of Shaq's size 22 shoes.

Within the last few days. Our team was just notified for this weekend of playing at PG at Lake Pointe (15u WWBA). New Lake Pointe rule - No metal cleats.

Since now. From the PG website for this weekend's upcoming WWBA for games hosted at LakePoint & HomePlate:

"No metal spikes will be allowed on the turffields both at LakePoint as well as HomePlate. All players must wear moldedcleats, turfs, or tennis shoes. We tried to accommodate the metal the past two weeks, but with the amount of games on the fields and turf mounds, we must change to no metal."

Good Luck all!

Small fields :-)

Actually the 14 an under sign was there the day they opened.
We played there the morning of the first day and I remarked to my wife as we walked in that I was surprised it was not 12 and under.

DD -

One of the vendors will sell a 5 gallon cooler of Powerade for the team for $20. No ice water in the dugout from games last week.

However, after a teams 1st game there it seemed most of the kids packed a couple Powerade's into their bat bag (since its a Coca Cola facility that sells Powerade for $3, and not as noticeable as drinking a Gatorade).

Huge negative- we followed the rules about coolers and didn't bring anything into the park last weekend.
Had a 9:45 pm game and around the 4th inning everything was suddenly closed and our players were left with nothing to drink.
Vending machines were not on, nothing in dugouts! If they are not going to allow coolers then something must be available anytime a game is playing!

I heard that teams could purchase a water cooler for each game. Is that true? I have not been there yet, but "assumed" that ice water would be available in each dugout.

Sounds like changes are being made REAL QUICK -- no more bag searches, can bring 1 bottle of water, new sign with kids 14 & under free.

Just remember about the turf. It's not 50 degrees cooler meaning if it's 85 degrees outside the field is 35. Turf fields can get 170+ degrees. So it would still be hot on the field. I have been there 3 times and yes you feel the heat BUT it's nothing like the old AstroTurf fields that would burn you if you touched it. Also FWIW I haven't been searched, and there is a huge sign about kids under 14 free. My 10 year old walked right through every time.

Place is amazing. We were fortunate to have 2 games up there. Seems like it is easy to play infield because the ball skips well on the turf but it didn't seem "hot". No, bad hops because of the turf.

Don't know about the whole water thing but buddy must have had a $3.99 Walmart 12 pack.

The money grab that is PG is astounding, I was especially disgusted with the tie breaker rules in bracket play. That's not baseball, that's garbage...the facilities were very nice, the boys and coaches did say it was crazy hot on the field but that's to be expected.

I am sure you and your friends are the exception, but have you seen parking lots after events like this? People are messy creatures at best and there would be trash all over the place if they allowed eating in the parking lot. (Not to mention all the trash put in the back of strangers' pickup, but that is another story). I don't blame LP for this one. If you are eating in your car they cannot do anything about it. As far as tailgating around your car, where would you draw the line? None, a family eating sandwiches, a team eating sandwiches, or someone lights a grill and pulls out the cooler of PBR? If it is your JOB to clean up the parking lot, I know where you would want the line drawn.

My complaint this week:
To the parents of six hundred forty three players blocking BOTH lanes of the entrance/exit in the curve waiting for your kids to come out for five minutes: Be considerate of others and don't block the entrance/exit. Your kids are athletes and they are very capable of walking the 30 extra feet to the parking lot. In the words of Long Duk Dong, "Jeez!!!"

I guess the cooling for the field isn't working yet. If it is 50 degrees cooler like it is advertised, come July, I will be laying in the outfield between innings!!!

My boys and I really enjoyed being in the park and facilities. Bob Balker is right on you can not expect it to be fully ready yet. Another year or two and all the amenities will be functioning and scoreboards working too unlike many of the parks we go to including ECB.

For those looking for somewhere to eat, try Doug's Place in Emerson, only about 1.5 miles from Lake Pointe. Two exits north of Lake Pointe there are plenty more places to eat.

Not sure how you could think you were going to walk into Lake Pointe on Day one and think there would be hotels, stores and restaurants up and running. They had fields ready and wanted to start and that's awesome, for people who though that full service food outlets would be ready and at their disposable, who cares. I would be there for the baseball and could care less about the "eats". Pack a lunch and eat in the car. This place is going to be awesome when fully completed, for now it's still great. And BTW, to echo bballman, PG entry fees have ALWAYS been $10, learned that when I went a few years back to watch the big boys.
