I am looking for input. I would like to build a batting cage for my boys in the basement. I can not afford the expenive one's, so I will have to piece it together in a more affordable way.

Right now, I am thinking I need the following:

1. Netting
2. Tee
3. L-screen

Hoping all you experienced folks can guide me as to where I can go that is affordable and what I am not thinking of...thanks in advance

Go talk with Glenn. There are various thicknesses and materials used to construct the netting. Don't overpay for netting that doesn't fit your needs. If you're using it indoors, you won't need something that resists elements. Also, depending on length and application, you may be able to get away with thinner netting. You may be surprised.

A couple of years ago, I was in a similar boat. Determined the size I wanted and went to BB. Based on the space and need, Glenn and I worked to draw out exactly what I needed. Around $450 for all the poles, netting, hardware, bungees, etc., in my case. A week or so later, his guys had custom constructed all the components for me to pick up and assemble at my sight. My boys have been using it for 3 years now and it's still going strong.

I did this a couple of years ago. You can find used or surplus netting quite cheaply at Better Baseball, I wouldn't recommend looking anywhere else. If you don't have room for a full cage and instead are going to have them hit into a net from a soft toss machine as I did, a big factor is the durability of the frame supporting the net after the boys whack repeated balls off it. Would suggest going with a PVC, rather than wood, frame in that case.

Get the measurements of available space and go see Glenn at Better Baseball. He'll sit down with you and design the most affordable solution to fit your needs. He can work within your budget and you'll know that you won't miss anything.
