If you lose in a semi-final round Sunday Morning you have to win 5 games to take home the medal. Lose any earlier and you are having to play 7 on Sunday. This is after already playing possibly 6 games in two days.

This tournament might need some adjustment. I understand you can't have this tournament over a week, but three days and possibly 13 games is brutal. If you have 11 man rosters you could not even finish the tournament without ruining some arms.

Could you have four regional qualifiers anybody could sign up for and then have a state championship with the top four from each region? How about three pool play and then single elimination with a best of three for crown? How about having multiple divisions like your normal tournaments?

I have been trying to convince Tony to make this at least a 4 day tournament for a couple of years now. Its a GREAT event and I love double elimination. Its just to hard on a team to try to do in 3 days.

11 man is to small of a roster at 12 and up. But we were in the 10u division. At that age its all about reps. And with more then 11 you start cutting into that. We would have loved just to have made it to Sunday. If we had of......not sure who would have thrown at that point.

Cooperstown is the exception, although you only play 2/day in pool play.

If you finish pool play on Wednesday and are a low seed, you have to play 5 games that day to get to Thursday (final pool and 4 bracket). Otherwise you have anywhere from 2-4 pool games on Wednesday and 3 on Thursday.

Our team had 7 pool games, 2, 2, 2 and 1. We then played 3 bracket games before we lost, so we had 4 games on Wednesday. If we had won our last Wednesday game we would have been done until Thursday, when we would have had to play 2 games to get into the championship.

That is not nearly as brutal as what was described in this thread and it was Cooperstown which was a once in a lifetime event.

Unless you're baseballpapa. Then it's an annual trek.

We got knocked out after our 7th game in 3 days and the parents were, secretly, thankful. If we had won, we would still have had 3 more games to play to win it all. That would have been 6 in one day! 13 overall! We would have had to pitch 5 or 6 pitchers 1 inning each in those final games. Just not enough pitching.
Not complaining, we knew what we signed up for. Just alot of ball in a short period of time. But overall it was a fun weekend of ball and Fowler Park is beautiful and I look forward to playing there again.

We were in 13U and also got knocked out after our 7th game. We would have had to run off 3 more wins in order to take the 'ship. The boys played well all weekend and never gave up. When you sign up for a double elimination tournament you have to have plenty of pitching and manage accordingly. Our pitchers had plenty of innings left. We have a 12 man roster and 10 of them pitch. I am not saying the boys weren't tired, but it is what was signed up for, other than mother nature moving in on Sunday afternoon. And yes, we had the last game Friday night, the first game Saturday morning, the last game Saturday night and the second game Sunday morning. It is luck of the draw. Yeah we could have won Saturday night and then played at 12:40 instead of 10:20 Sunday, but if a frog had wings...... Overall pleased with the tournament and the results!

I'm thinking if the parents were thankful, the players probably were as well.

Agreed, but the numbers 3sondad is throwing out there are flat out insane.

At what other level of baseball does a team play more than even 2 games in a day? It doesn't happen in High School. It doesn't happen in College, unless it has happened during the postseason that I'm not aware of.

I think three is pushing it and 4 or more is ridiculous. And even moreso if we are talking about kids under 14 or 15.

The coaches and or managers signed up for it knowing the format before the first pitch. Sounds a lot like the USSSA TBS with the regional idea, think that is being done already. The 12u age group is split into two divisions. Hey, if you do not like the format or feel it is too much for your player, play in another tournament. Is it healthy to play that many games over 3 days? Too much of a good thing can be detrimental.
Instead of taking as many teams that will come, have a limited number of spots available. Quality is better than quantity.
