What are your thoughts on attending college baseball camps. Do players benefit enough to warrant sending them?

I'd go to the web site of the particular school(s) you son is interested in, but if you are looking for a more general site this one isn't bad. It has a nice mix of D1 and D2 schools.

If you son is a definite “major/mid major” DI prospect then they will probably see him play in June/July when the feeding frenzy starts. Otherwise, go to the showcases of the schools were you want to go. Or if they don’t have one go to a nearby school or another school in that conference.

Are you trying to get noticed or trying to get better? Or both?

My son did the following:
• Two VMI showcases: Very well run camp\showcase run by the coaches with about 10 other regional teams in attendance
• Gordon College Showcase: This was a practice like environment run by the coaches (very well run FREE showcase)
• GCSU Showcase: Typical showcase setup with coaching instruction
• Baseball Factory Showcase: Pure showcase setup with potential invite to other more expensive event
• Baseball Factory Pirate City World Series: Very pricy but very well run event. 10hr per day, 5 days of baseball, 4 games, professional instruction. (DON’T expect college coaches to be there). We thought it was worth the money (others may not)

All were very good at keeping him engaged in skill development and gave him a since of where he was relative to other players.

In the end his opportunity to play college ball came via his summer/Fall travel team. He was never interested in going anywhere except a school that offered a military career. If you or anyone else want to talk about what we experienced please don't hesitate to call 678 538-7336 (glad to help the next kid get "there".)

He ended up with a Scholars Appointment to the Coast Guard Academy. He will play one year at Marion Military Institute and then move on to the Academy next year.

Not aware of any. Best bet is to go to the team's websites that you are interested in and see if it lists any camps/showcase events at their school. I know North Georgia College & State University does one every year, and I'm pretty sure Columbus State does something as well. All the big D1's usually have some kind of camp/showcase at their schools as well.

the ga tech overnight camp is good, it runs in july. Its less of a showcase camp and more of a instructional camp. I like it so my son can get some instruction, show his skills to the coaches and get experience of being in a college dorm and being away from home.

He will attend two college camps this summer as well as two individuals showcases, PG and Under Armour.

Short on time so just a couple of points here...

1. Only go to camps where your son is interested in going to that school
2. Be realistic: is your son's talent level sufficient to be of interest to the school which is hosting the camp?
3. Make sure the camp is managed by the actual coaching staff of the school. I've heard of some camps where a 3rd party licenses the school's name and rents its facility, but the school's coaches or not involved with the camp. You don't want that.
4. Personally, I would wait until sophomore year to attend a camp. Some may disagree here.
5. zwndad is right about Young Harris...but I think that's more of a showcase than a camp

My son, who's going to play at a D2 school next year, got the most interest after doing the Young Harris camp this past summer. It was specifically billed as a prospect camp, not an instructional camp. They had a great Q&A session with several of the coaches that was really helpful. I wish we had gone to it when he was a rising junior instead of a senior just to see what it was about and learn the process better.

There were tons of coaches at that camp, mostly from small D1, D2, D3, NAIA, & JuCo schools.

Also, I have heard that, if you have an interest in a particular school, you should attend their camps every year throughout high school, so you become more familiar to them.
