Posted - 05/10/2013 : 10:41:18 We have a team (11u) that would like to go to Cooperstown in 2014. It is a rec team that plays travel ball in June. We would have to play in one of the July weeks because it would be after we complete our commitment to the coach and rec organization.
Is this possible and how do we go about it ?
thanks |

My son is almost 20 and going into his sophmore year of college baseball. He still says it was his favorite tournament/best baseball experience of all time. |

Posted - 06/10/2013 : 17:38:04 We went back in 09, To this day ask any of those kids. they will tell you it was the best tourney, best week of baseball to date. great time.. if you are going in July. look at the date of the MLB hall of fame induction. you can tie that into your trip and see all the hall of famers around the town that week. it may be a bit more expensive but worth it. if you are the outdoor type try the campgrounds, we got a rustic cabin for lessthan 1/2 the price of a small hotel room. and yes you can have younger players on the roster. good luck in 14. |

Posted - 05/13/2013 : 08:27:31 The couple of times we have gone (both late June), the rec teams who played lost most games by about 20-0. I have heard that you should wait until later in July to go if you want to avoid the toughest competition. Just saying all that to let you know what you may be getting yourselves into. |

So what is the deal with "grandfather certificates".
I did not think we could just sign up like a normal tournament. Can some of the players be younger than 12 ?
"Players may not turn 13 before May 1, 2013"
A grandfather certificate is given to the teams that participate and can be used the next year to guarantee a team will get a spot in one of the weeks. I never knew a team at our park that didn't get their first choice. We had two certificates because two teams from the park went every year and they passed it on to the upcoming 12's. |

Posted - 05/10/2013 : 15:58:53 thanks the coach stays with the same age group year to year. if he has not done it before, he probably does not have an interest. we will cross that bridge when we get there |

You mean they are 11 now and will be 12 when you want to go? All the info is in here. Any particular reason you would exclude the coach? |
