Posted - 01/22/2013 : 12:34:05 I was wondering about the possibility of creating a team of 14 from Georgia's best players to compete in Showcases. Basically looking at the top teams in the state and pulling one or two players from each to form a roster that was lights out from top to bottom. 8 static position players, 3 pitcher only and 3 utility players. The players would train/workout on their own and come together for the showcases, all high level players, no weak links.
Has this been done before? Is it plausible? Just giving us something to talk about. |

Posted - 01/26/2013 : 09:57:12 Sure it could be done but I am not sure that team would be heads and above any of 8-10 other area teams. At the showcase level there are many players and teams that have worked very hard and that are prepared to perform at this level. These kids have been richly blessed with an abundance of talent but what impresses me much more than their talent is their desire to compete and their willingness to work extremely hard to achieve their personal goals. You take that talent and add in the resources that are available to that kind of kid and you automatically increase the opportunity to succeed.

Plus, the main purpose for showcase events is for the scouts and college recruiters to see different players. Winning is nice but not the main purpose for showcases.

Posted - 01/25/2013 : 13:33:04 what age group are you talking about. at 17-18 you could make 10 teams if your pulling from the area. EC, 643, Team Elite, Team GA, Atlanta Blue Jays, Nelson BA etc. theres enough talent around to make alot of showcase teams. Some already are. |
