Just curious as someone made a tobacco joke in passing. How bad is tobacco use with they teams your kid is on. I know I first started using it at 14, that is when the big exposure happened. Curious if you guys are seeing it trend lower?

From player view - no one on my 14 or 15 travel team used tobacco. High School - some. Regarding 5hr E - I can't stand the taste of energy drinks so don't personally drink them. Some of my friends do regularly - including 5hr E. They do act jacked up a bit and seem to hit harder? Mom asked DR about it. He said it was the taurine (sp?) that has been proven to increase athletic performance. Maybe these will get banned next. My trainer got me started on FRS though (http://nutrition.about.com/od/shoppingforvitamins/fr/frsplus.htm). DR says it is fine and actually may be really good for athletes. Just my $.02

I remember losing the Zone tournament when I was 15 playing on the 16yr old team. Back then you had to win (district, state, region, zone) just to get to the world series. We stayed up all night smoking Swisher sweet cigars from the convient store next to the hotel. That time and 1 other time in Vegas are the only times in my 40 years I have stayed up all night. hahaa!

I continue my vigilance with talking about "sex, drugs and alcohol" on a regular basis. Needless to say, I was taken by surprise about chew. I've stomped it out but admit that I got surprised and blindsided by it ! Now it's "sex, drugs, alcohol & tobacco and fierarms" !!!! I'm beginning to sound like a government agency !!!!!!

Asked my son after seeing this. He said a bunch of kids on HS team did it. A few on his 17 & 18 team did it. Almost everyone on his college team do it. He doesn't. :) I'm happy about that.

None, however 5hr E is off the chart.
