We are playing in the USSSA Battle of the South in a couple of weeks. The info on the ECB web-site says "no composite bats allowed". USSSA's info says "only 100% wood bats allowed". My son has a new Brett Brothers GOBON #5 Model 110. Is it legal for this tournament?

That's why

jdrew - thanks for the clarifications...

We went out and got a maple bat (since my son already has bamboo that he uses in cages + offseason), sounds like he'll have options for the touney.

One thing I can say after the last 2 years in the Javy Lopez tourney in NG is that.... Javy sure sold ALOT of Bones bats

* BAT NOTES: Only bats constructed of 100% wood will be allowed. Any non-wood/non-natural materials will not be acceptable. There will be vendors at the tournament selling Rawlings, Marucci and Old Hickory bats for those that need them.

Maybe he started the thread because he thought they might change the rules and allow composite or bamboo bats. In the past my son used a bamboo bat at the World Wood Bat held at ECB. My son was convienced the bamboo does not hit as well as the Marucci or Bones bats.

The rules for the ECB tournament say bamboo bats are not allowed, so I would double check on this one since it says it has a bamboo core.

I found this on the web describing the model in question -
"The GOBON #5 bat is the best engineered wood bat in the world Maple bat with patent pending "Bamboo Super Core Technology" Fiberglass inside the bat's handle, between the bamboo core and the surrounding maple for exceptional durability".
Looks like a hybrid bat with a blend of Bamboo/Maple but the "fiberglass" part may throw up a red flag. Doesn't look like it would enhance performance but rather helps the durability (cracking/splitting). I would start a thread in the 12U discussion under this topic or email the EC Braves directly.
