One of the things I see posted and hear a lot is "we don't have any superstars/studs on our team" when describing a particular team. What is the intended or hidden meaning of this in your opinion? Does is insinuate that teamwork is paramount? Does it mean that given the opportunity to add a superstar/stud player that you wouldn't? Interested to hear some differing opinions.

To me that means.....see look at us we are successful without the studs YOU have. Insert any number of teams for YOU. A way of cheap shotting the coaches of a team that has very good players. It may or may not be true, but it sounds good. Usually followed by.....We develop what we have, those kids practically coach themselves. LOL!!!! As if they did ,or even would, turn down a top talented kid.

I am fortunate to be associated with such a team. Anybody in the order is capable of the big hit and to my knowledge no one is complaining about anything because we win. It was a very strong team last year and the few that left were replaced with a few that are better in all aspects including their parent's attitudes. In fact, one kid bats pretty low in the order (another coach does the order) but has one of the best avgs. on the team and his parents don't complain at all. They accept it for what it is and the rest of us appreciate that.

About the quote" we don't have any superstars/studs on our team", we don't when you compare all of them to each other. But if you took each player and put him on a different team he most definitely WOULD be the stud on that team unless they were the Astros or something. Then he'd probably just blend in again.

Ram is right. It's rare and refreshing and we've all hung in through some pretty bad stuff so we relish every single moment this year.

I always took it to mean the coach was doing a good job with what he has to work with. Not every good coach has good players but you can coach them up.

IMO this could mean a handful of things, but my guess would be balanced ego's - the nail that sticks out gets hammered, and in their case, no nails are sticking out.

Could it be that the team is truly balanced? - no drop off from 1-9, everyone contributes, everyone is on board 100% and sings kumbaya after every practice and game? Possibly.

More likely it just means that there is no outward ego issues, the kids a the bottom of the roster know their roles, and accept them, and the parents all understand and are on board with this - it's rare, and refreshing when it comes together... Baseball is game of failure and some fail more often than others - that's just the facts and on a team, some play better than others - whether or not it inflates one's head (0r one's parents head) at the expense of being humble, or exhibiting good sportsmanship - that's public opinion I guess.
