Posted - 01/02/2012 : 21:13:44 I think we need a forum thats like a wall of shame starting to warn directors and other coaches of teams to watch out for. I had 3 teams last year write bad checks and then not make them good. One was for the USSSA state tournament that was $460 and the coach kept saying I would get it and never did. So basically I was out $1000. Im not posting team names yet but just thought it was an intresting topic. What do you guys think? |

So now we all know that there are sleazy Tournament Directors, sleazy Coaches & sleazy Parents out there. This is not something new, nor will it go away anytime soon -- even with a "wall of shame". Believe me everyone knows who the bad apples are and those coaches, TD's and parents are weeded out as time goes on and its usually at their own expense.
In a perfect world a thorough weeding might take place. However, with new parents and players constantly entering the market and being enticed by all the silliness that occurs in youth sports in general and youth baseball in particular, there are ALWAYS fresh victims for the vultures to prey.
No, if youth baseball is going be better in Atlanta, immediate corrective action needs to take place!
I know if my case, EVERYBODY who ask is told how that wannabe coach conducts business and coaches his players and they are shown the the email.
Some heed the warning and some don't but I feel as if I'm doing a small part to help make the youth baseball environment better in Atlanta. |

Posted - 01/04/2012 : 16:30:31 I think USSSA needs to have some Alert that will not let them register for another tournament till that is paid in full plus charges for the check with cash or a money order and that team nor any of the coaches can pay with check for one year whether they are for that team or another team. |

Posted - 01/03/2012 : 18:00:35 Add to that Coaches who STEAL from families and players!
I had the unpleasant experience of having a coach keep my spring 2011 team fee installment payment made in the fall of 2010 when after being asked to join the team at the August tryouts and agreeing to participate with a $1500 team fee, I made my first installment of $300 in October. At the VERY next practice in October AFTER I made my spring 2011 payment, the coach announced that the team fee has been REVISED to $2300! That's right, from $1500 to $2300 without even a giggle!
When I made it known that that team was not a good fit for my family, the coach, who I would heretofore speak with 2 or 3 times per week NEVER ONCE return my calls or letters requesting a refund of my spring 2011 season installment payment of $300. I'll add that I paid the required $200 fall season payment as expected.
I did, however, receive an email stating that my SPRING 2011 installment payment would not be returned. It also stated that I COST the team $781 dollars for leaving the team in November 2010..."go figure".
Of course I wasn't the only player that left the team with the unexpected increase in team fee and neither was I the only one that did not get the spring 2011 season payment back.
Do you think he gave the players that were added a discount since he already had mine and others spring 2011 season installment payments already? |

I am ALL for this one! As a former team mom/coordinator, I have been stuck holding the bag for someone else too many times. People like that SHOULD be outed! |

Posted - 01/03/2012 : 09:23:31 Wall of Shame should definitely be open as well to shady tactics by tournament organizers, IMHO. I'm thinking of one guy in particular east of Atlanta who consistently doesn't post that there will be a gate fee until 3 days or so before pool play, by which time a team has already decided to commit to that tournament. |

Posted - 01/02/2012 : 22:46:04 I say take them to small claims court and get your money plus expenses. A check is a promisary note and is a legal document.
I think that is a better approach than just trying to shame them.
