We are having a first time experience with the ECB tryouts on Saturday. I am getting worried because it seems all the team have already formed or they are only looking for a few players Saturday. If my son is not picked Saturday, does anyone have any advice as to where we should look to take him. Why have tryouts when all the teams have already been chosen? We are new to the area and I am not wanting my son to feel like a left over and I am sure I am not the only one that will be facing this on Saturday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

I wouldn't worry. There are several teams that have played as majors but aren't sure that they are . . . .
There will be plenty of opportunities for your son with so many teams in the area. It may be too late to find your best fit, but you can spend this season scoping out teams to see if what you're looking for is out there and then get an earlier start next year in trying to get where you want your son to be.

Ecbkreskin is correct. Your are at the right age to get picked if he is what you say. Just have fun but dont give up. Some coaches will still let your son come practice and play fall ball. There will be several openings from fall to spring. Best of luck. |

He will be a 12 u next year, and has played with a major team for 2 years. We are from south ga and traveling is not a problem. We are tired of the daddy ball and ready to take our son to the next level with his baseball. We attended a camp at EBC and we were hooked and registered for the tryouts, however we were not aware that so many teams were already chosen for the upcoming year. We do look at this as an experience for him but we want a travel team!!! |

Our son's team is holding a couple of spots for the tryouts. (Assuming since it's this coming Saturday he's 13 or under?)
What I wish I knew for our first ECB Tryout - Don't worry and tell your son not to get nervous. Do the best he can. The coaches are looking for mechanics not the diving catch in the outfield. He should also remember to be respectful - yes sir and no sir. Call the pop ups (mine, mine) really loudly so the parents in the stands can hear them. Tell him to go up to each coach at the end and thank them. (Good manners goes a long way...)
As parents in the stands - please don't just obsess over every move he makes - will drive the other parents crazy. You could be sitting near one of the coaches wives and believe me - if you are obnoxious they will let the coach know about it. Applaud good plays for every player - and you will see good players. Tell your son to watch the other players and learn - try to honestly evaluate your son compared to the other attendees - especially ones that wear a jersey for a team you are interested in. And remember, it's the whole package not just pieces that makes the player....
If he gets an offer, check out the coach and the other players on the team and ask lots of questions!
Above all - relax and enjoy and make it what you will....

All great advice from above. Depends on his age group for a good answer. I would wait and keep checking this NWGA baseball site under age appropriate teams looking for players and start with the closest practice field to my house and attend one of their tryouts and go from there. |

Several of the East Cobb teams are either having evaluations this week, or providing coaches contact for private evaluations. There is still time to be seen by some of the Ecb coaches before next weekend's tryouts. |

Your son's age group and baseball experience (where has he played, what level? AA, AAA, Major) would help us give you some honest input.
My son has been in and out of ECB for the last few years so I can fill you in on the basics at the 13 and up levels.
Depending on the number of kids they will split into morning and afternoon tryouts by last names so the coaches won't have seen everyone until the end of the day. If the coach is there, he's looking for players. Teams that are full, the coaches won't show up. He'll be given a number which he'll wear the whole time to ID him.
The boys will be timed running 60yd and they run in pairs.
They will catch and throw in from right field to 3rd and home. (fly balls and grounders)
If he's an infielder he'll take balls at his position and throw to first, turn doubles ect...
He'll hit a couple of rounds of BP with a coach throwing from an Lscreen about 20 feet away. It's a chance to show hitting for power and his ability to hit to all fields.
If he pitches, he'll throw a bullpen of maybe 10-15 pitches and they'll be using a radar gun.
That's about it for the stuff they actually pay attention too. The rest is just instructional stuff. Last year at 14U there were over 200 kids, some were already on teams, some weren't. You won't know. There are ALOT of kids that tryout and don't get called. It's a good chance to see where he stands skill wise compared to the others.
Unless your son is a serious cut above the rest he most likely won't be approached on Sat. with an outright offer. Youll get a call from 1 or more coaches starting that following Monday and all the way up to that next weekend. They've got your info so you just have to wait. It's not the end oft he world if he doesn't make it. Take the areas he was weak in and concentrate on them. Tryouts are a great tool for improvement.
You'll have to provide what area you live in also for everyone to make suggestions as an alternative to ECB. |

Welcome to ECB 's largest fundraiser. Sometimes it's better to wait and talk to the coaches a few weeks after Tryouts and ask for a private look. If he's a quality player they will make room for him, if not, it didn't cost you. You really should have approached the coach on the side during the previous season and showed your interest this past season so he could have looked at your son during game conditions. There's way to many good teams out there to pay that sort of money(unless that's not a problem). Check the usssa site for the best teams close to wear you live or within a short drive and see who else is having Tryouts. |
