Our 10U team is heading to Myrtle Beach in June to play in a Ripken Tournament. Just curious to hear the pros/cons from others who have been. Also, any other GA teams going June 19 week?

Anyone have an updated list of the 10u and 13u teams coming the week of 6-19?
mjones9226 Posted - 05/31/2011 : 16:02:36
Looking at the list, and knowing most all of the teams except only 2 or 3, you guys are the only ones I see. If there are others it is not many.

With 5 pool play games, and a guarantee not to play a team in the 1st bracket round round that you faced in pool play, we'll get a chance to play at least 6 different teams in this one. Should be interesting.

Alpharetta A's -- Alpharetta, Ga
Buckhead Braves -- Atlanta, Ga
Coal Mountain Storm -- Cumming, Ga
Cowboys -- Cooper City, Fl
Diamond Baseball -- Knoxville, Tn
East Cobb Wolfpack -- East Cobb, Ga
Indiana Bandits -- Greenfield, In
Indiana Mustangs -- Noblesville, In
Lula Lugnuts --Lula, Ga
Pl Wildcats --Pembroke Pines
Sfcb Longhorns -- Cumming, Ga
Sharon Springs Spartan Blue -- Cumming, Ga
Sharon Springs Spartans 10u Silver -- Cumming, Ga
Sharon Springs Spartans Black --Cumming, Ga
South Paulding Xplosion -- Dallas, Ga
Team Georgia -- Suwanee, Ga
The Panther Baseball Club -- Chesapeake, Va
Weston Hawks Red -- Weston
10 Panthers -- Miami Lakes, Fl

The ECB Wolfpack is a 9u team, my son is on that team. Do we know how many other 9u teams are in this? I know Ripken couldnt fill the 9u so they moved what 9u teams they had into the 10u tournament..

One team said they lost 3 kids and unfortunately had to back out and then (Sales Rep) says he will give team a discount of close to $2,500 just to see if team will play in tournament

3 kids lost at $675 each comes to over $2000, so assuming that the team in question adds at least one more kid to make a full team, then the discount would be more like $1000, not $2500. In any case, it seems to me that the rep is just trying to give that team an opportunity/incentive to pick up just any ol' player(s) that they can, so they can still play. Obviously the team would be much weaker than they otherwise would have been, so maybe the rep just doesn't want the team to feel like they are wasting quite so much money if they play poorly because of the lost players. Of course the rep is trying to keep as many teams in the tourney as he can, but given these particular circumstances, I don't really see anything wrong with it.

Why play in this tournament??? Seriously, the price changes depending on your SALES rep. One team said they lost 3 kids and unfortunately had to back out and then (Sales Rep) says he will give team a discount of close to $2,500 just to see if team will play in tournament, he said he gets paid by how many teams play in tournament. WOW. This team gave Ripken 15 weeks notice that they will not be able to play, its not like its 2 or 3 or 5 weeks ...15 WEEKS. ....Look at the big picture, Ripken Tournaments quote $675 PER KID for a Ripken tournament?? Why...When you can play multiple tournaments such as USSSA Summer, Triple Crown Nationals, AAU Nationals, etc.. for total $700 ENTRY FEE per tournament ..not per kid!! This is a total lack of integrity..you might pay $675 per player and coach, but guess what, your opponent might be paying $475 per player/coach , talk about lack of integrity. Glad our manager stayed clear of Ripken, sorry to hear my nephew getting hosed, had to share..

The tourney during the week discussed is HS rules for the 10u group, and is listed differently than the others. Straight up baseball on the basepads, and uncaught third strikes. That is why we are going this week as opposed to the others.

You are correct this particular weekend is going to be played by NFHS rules. I worked with Ripken getting this into place with the hopes of drawing more Georgia teams. They were very willing to work with us on doing this. So hopefully it will be a great turnout for them. We have a close relationship with the Ripken folks through our League and they are a great group to work with. They are looking for some additional 9u teams so if you guys know of anyone contact me and I will put you in touch with the appropriate people.

Email Joe Mulinaro at jmulinaro@ripkenbaseball.com and tell him Jon Howard told you to contact him. He can fill you in with the teams coming.

Took me a while to figure it out, but go to the tourney and click on the "set roster" link. When you do at the top it will have a drop down list of teams entered. Best I can tell there are 9 from around the Atlanta area that week alone (in the 10u). It is a neat experiance. My 13 had a ball there last year. Pitching rules are not in place to my knowledge, it is the coaches discretion. I could be wrong about this age group though.
Enine Posted - 04/22/2011 : 21:41:27
According to the rules there are no pitching limits. Ripken provides guidelines but allows the coaches to make the decisions. I also see that the 10U is 46/60 and not 46/65. No balks, leads/steals until ball crosses the plate.

What are the pitching limits for the 10u Ripken Experience?
mjones9226 Posted - 04/22/2011 : 19:48:07
Went with our 12u group last summer, and cannot think of any cons. Everything is extremely well run, great umpires, and they go all out for the players. We only had one day with rain, and were back on the fields within 30 minutes after it quit. Our kids had a great time. According to the roster there are several Atlanta area teams that will be there the week of the 19th. It is something to look forward to.

We went about 4 years ago and really liked it. Tournament was run very well and the fields were super cool. All artificial turf except the pitchers and batters circles. Don't think I'd want to play on it all the time, but it was cool for the week. I think you'll have fun.
