For those outside the northwest metro Atlanta area, Cody Scoggins is a senior at Rockmart High School. My team will be writing a check for $111. I hope you will be challenged by this:

Hello to all,
I have never made a request like this before so please bear with me. I am asking for your help with a small donation. I am asking for $11.00. I know that is a strange amount to request, but it is with good reason. On November 5, 2010, one of my former ballplayers, Cody Scoggins, was in a serious car accident coming home from a high school football game. I know our baseball community is tight around here, so you may have heard of this tragedy. Cody has been in a coma since that night. Many operations and much pain later Cody is still fighting.

Cody’s number on my team as well as his high school number was 11, so a few of us, Bob Kelley of Shamrock Baseball, Roy Anderson of SportsArama-SARTA REDS, and others who have had the pleasure of coaching Cody over the years, thought we could step up to the plate and help. The hospital bills are astronomical; not to mention the in-home care and rehab of a coma patient. If you know the Scoggins (Ricky and Janice are Cody’s Grandparents), you know they would never think of asking for help. They have always been the ones there for everyone else. Well, let me tell you they are in need, so we are also going to hold a little tournament to raise money for Cody and his family on May 7th and 8th. The games will be played at Dominion H.S; the umps are giving their time. Each team is paying 250.00 to play one game. We have two teams from Southeastern Baseball, two from Brian Nelson Baseball, two from 6-4-3, two from Shamrock Baseball, as well as Team Elite and ECB. The gate will be $5.00 per person, so please join us if you can for this great cause. The support from the teams has been awesome.

The $11 is just a starting point. Any amount will help, and If you can give more, all the better. I know times are not good for anyone these days, but just imagine how nice it would feel to have a small part in lifting a very big burden from a great family. Bob Kelley of Shamrock Baseball has very graciously set up an account so please send checks to Shamrock Baseball, --4320 Highborn Dr. Marietta GA 30066 and put Cody in the left hand corner. Thank you all so much for anything you can do and please forward to this request to anyone you know that might be able to help as well.

God bless,

Ron Raper
