I just wanted to take a few minutes to say thanks for the exceptional job that Triple Crown did this past weekend in pulling off this tournament.
137 teams, 17 different venues,4 days of baseball.
After Fridays bad weather, the postponement of most of Fridays games, and the delay in getting started Saturday, it would have been real easy to come up with some kind of modified format in order to save themselves the time and trouble associated with finding, procuring, and preparing the extra fields needed to get the tournament in.
Tony and his staff did a phenominal job pulling it all together so the teams could get in their full tournament.
I know some plans had to be changed and some teams schedules re-aranged, but as far as I know everyone got to play all their games. ( There were a few in the 12U that had to be cut back to 1:30 )Three championship games in the 12U bracket all decided by one point.
I would argue that most TD's would not have put forth the extra effort required to pull off such a monumental task. Tony showed that, for him, running tournaments is more than just a vocation. He truly cares about youth atheletics and I know that at some big ballfield in the sky, Andy is looking down with a big ,proud papa smile on his face, saying thataboy.

I'm not sure it was so much of having to go to Cumming as it was the games Saturday being 2 hours behind and showing up for BP at 5:50 for 7 PM game only to find out the 7 PM game would not start until 9:30. Then finding out really late Saturday that you had to be in Cumming for a 9 AM game the next morning. Perhaps some massaging could have been done to keep teams from playing so early after playing so late.

Huge Kudos to TC for getting all of the games in this weekend. I did notice a change in the venue for the games once the rainout happened on Friday night but I was VERY impressed with TC getting all the games in even tough I heard whispers of people not being happy about having to go to Cumming.

Not sure if the other organization would have went through the effort to get the games in.

My sons has played at east cobb and I have worked the score boards on occassion. I say they worked most but not all of the time. Sometimes they have went out during the game and sometimes they come back on. I think it was an electical problem for field 5 but it was fixed and worked the next time we played on the field.

great tournament but in several of our games, scoreboard wasn't on or being kept at all.

I didn't say they wasn't working....they wasn't turned on for our games. We knew they worked.

We play out of EC and the scoreboard is working a vast majority of the time....I will also say that umpires seem to go out of the way to NOT favor the EC teams....We spend a lot of our time frustrated with the pitiful umpires on the field at EC....every team has seen it more than once regardless of where they are from

momshell, we have played multiple times at East Cobb and always had a working scoreboard... must be your bad luck!

Getting back to the topic, I still can't believe Tony & team were able to get in ALL games with that many fields, when they missed over 1/2 day games time slots and lost a field in the process. Yes we had to drive to Cumming which was unexpected, but we were playing. It would have been so much easier and probably more profitable to re-schedule pool play to 1 game per team. (117 teams x $100/game for umpires = $11.7k). That shows you how Tony feels about producing a great experience for our kids.

This is why Tony is the best. And while I haven't played everywhere, nowhere else I have played is close.

Kaytrishjr- Want to make sure I understand you. Both Triple Crown and USSSA hire umpires who give the calls to the East Cobb teams? Really? I thought these were national organizations that host tournaments all over the country. Will East Cobb teams get the calls in Savannah next week or will they have umpires favor the local boys? My son plays at East Cobb and I didn't even know we were the home team!

That's not what I meant and you know it. I understand that maybe you took offense to my comment because your son plays at East Cobb, but come on.

My son has never played for an East Cobb team, but has played a ton of games at ECB against East Cobb teams. I can honestly say I've never seen much home cooking there. Bad calls? Certainly, but nothing that seemed systematic or consistent. In fact, the most controversial call in a game that I was involved in went our way.

The worst umpire we ever had was at our home park. Came with an attitude, wanted to bail after the first game of a DH and was out of position all day and finally just made a horrible call. Closest I ever came to getting tossed. I think I didn't breathe for 3 innings thinking that if I exhaled I'd get run.

You want home cooking play in a Grand Slam tournament in PCB....

22202~

There are a coupla different USSSA tourneys in 2 weeks by 2 different TD's in a particular age group. Locations are close to each other and I noticed today that there is at least one team showing up in both tournaments. Why do I mention it? Because the guilty TD you and I are upset with currently is one of those TD's.

Anyone who has tried to register for a USSSA tournament online knows it won't let you be in 2 for the same weekend. A TD had to manually override the system to put that team in. This stinks bc one tourney may not make due to the games these guys play in the system.

If our team gets stuck AGAIN because of this guy I may have a stroke. Don't want to play both ends against the middle and tick somebody else off pulling out last minute - But what else can we do??

GoingGoingGone you can't be serious. You must be man who refuses to give credit where credit is due. Well I will tell you what I saw and heard this weekend. I saw Donny (Tony's brother) at American Legion sitting in a puddle scooping up water with gatorade bottles just to get the water off the field to start trying to prepare it for game time. When we got there at 10 I thought there was now way we were playing but by 2 Donny and the boys had the field ready to go. I had the pleasure of talking to him and this is what I found out. Tony and the boys got done rebracketing the tournament saturday morning at 3:45am and left the hotel at 4:30am to start working on all the fields. They had to shut down Mount Bethel field due to a tornado going through so they went to other fields to start getting those ready. With over a 170 teams in the tournament and the loss of games friday night they had to make some adjustments, which included sending teams a little further out then Marietta. I personally think they did a tremendous job don't you given the circumstances? When most TD would have shut it down and headed back home these guys refused to let mother nature stop our boys from playing baseball. So from me, my team, and my parents I tip my hat to Triple Crown for a job well done. There is a reason why you guys are the best...

This was our first time playing in a TC tournament.

I was impressed with the fact that the tourney director put forth a huge task of pulling it off despite weather conditions beyond his control. I loved the competition and we had a blast playing teams we don't usually play and meeting parents on other teams throughout the tournament. I would definitely want to play in another one.

However, TC had it's issues as does most. I found them to be the same as USSSA. For instance, Umps who blatantly favored the home (east cobb) teams, score boards that was not turned on for the games, not enough postings of bracket play around the tournament...we didn't know what was going on with the other games, who pitched in past games on other teams, etc.

So in my opinion, TC was not really better than USSSA...it was the same. It had it's own issues that I didn't particularly care for, but at the end of the day, that stuff wasn't the most important thing to us, my son, his team, parents and coaches was satisfied with the tournament and had fun and we'll make adjustments for the things we didn't like, just as we do with USSSA.

Great Job???? Some teams had to drive all the way to CUMMING for this tournament. They should have advertised that some teams may have travel that far. This was supposed to be a MARIETTA tournament.

Our team didn't get to play at all because of a TD that did not put any kind of effort to ready the fields for our tournaments venue. We were canceled at 830am, and by 10 the sun was out and the wind was blowing drying everything off! And we all know how Sunday was! Even after parents volunteered to help and or play late to make it happen. A extra 30 mile drive seems more than acceptable. I to applaud all TD's that worked and got their tournaments going for the kids! That will be rememebered!

Tony and the TC boys seem to do a great job every time. Even though I could not make it to the games this weekend my son had a blast.

If you're complaining about driving "all the way to Cumming for a Marietta tourny..." you will never make it to the older age travel groups when there are 40 or 50 game locations all over metro Atlanta.

Seriously, you're complaining about having to make a trek when the alternative would have been to cancel and go to the refund policy? The tourney was advertised as Marietta area, but when conditions out of their control took place, they did all they could to ensure the event would take place, even if it meant having to drive an extra 30 miles. They had no intention of playing in Cumming when they advertised the tournament, so no need to beat them up on that point. It is called travel ball for a reason. I agree with Peanutsr, GREAT job by TC and ALL the folks at the various venues whose worked to have fields ready to play over the weekend. My drive to Cumming was not what I planned on, but it beat not getting to play!!!!

Not even close to being true. There were pool and bracket play games scheduled in Cumming when the schedule first came out on Tuesday. That was way before the rain came.
