-The level of play
-The interesting Team Names
-The smell of the hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill
-The sound of the "PING" on a well hit ball.
-Giving fist bumps to both teams as they wait on their trophies.
-Pointing to the pitcher and saying Play behind the plate!
-Calling a strike on a nice duece.
-Getting to know the catchers behind the plate and cutting up with them between batters. I hope that doesnt get me in trouble.
-Seeing nice low scoring 6/7 inning game within the time limit.
-Watching the RF gun down the BR at 1B on a line drive.
-The various pick off moves.
-The gamesmanship that takes places between coaches.
-Players, Coaches, and Parents saying good game blue.
-Seeing kids skills develop from age group to age group as I move up also.
-All the hot moms!! HAHA...
-The taste of an ice cold gatorade between games.
-Coaches that know the rules.
-Kids that know the rules.
-A good double play.

It tickles me to no end to watch the kids chit-chat between innings and during pitching changes. They look like they are in the big league's out there; they even stand like them.
I once asked mine, after watching him chat up an opposing base runner at third, as to what they were talking about.
'I dunno......'

The fact that the kids at the 10U level are capable of - and expect themselves to make ridiculous plays in the field that the average teenager player couldn't make. And then half the time they look at you like you're crazy for making such a fuss about it, when it really wasn't a big deal to them. |

Simply love that my son LOVES it! He hates it when there is a rain out or we have an off weekend. |

Packing the car with a cooler of drinks, enough sandwich suplies and snacks to feed 2 or 3 teams, canopy, chairs, towels, sunscreen, camera at 8am and not getting home until 8pm. |

- A no-error game played well by both teams. Those wins are the sweetest and losses easier to swallow.
-Watching players pick up one of their teammates after he strikes out or makes an error.
-Seeing a player do something for the first time and watching their joy (double, triple, HR, double-play, steal home, etc).

I am so glad to hear this - we are taking our 10u team up this summer and always concerned it was too young, but I've always heard Cooperstown is that lifetime experience kids never forget. |

Stan brings up a good memory. Of all the things my son has done in baseball over the past 4 years, his favorite time is still the trip to Cooperstown.
We talked the other day about maybe he and I would coach a team in a few years and go back to Cooperstown. His eyes lit up and he smiled as he said "That would be great." |

MEMORIES - That last forever
A couple of years ago I was at the funeral of the father of a player that I coached. He went on to play collegiate baseball and is now an assistant college coach. We were talking about baseball games, teammates, etc. The conversation turned to the team's trip to Cooperstown. He said that the Cooperstown trip was his favorite childhood memory. Not favorite baseball memory, but favorite memory. No, we did not win. Played .500 ball and played 3 of the final 4 teams. It was the total experience and getting to play games. This confirmed what I have believed for a long time that what we do as coaches and parents is create childhood memories for these players. Lets make them good ones.

Watching the catcher work his butt off behind the plate and then hustling down the first base line to back a throw up !
Proper rotations of backups in the outfield
Run downs done correctly
Boys laughing
Seeds, it's all about the SEEDS !!!
Traveling with my son and other dad's / sons & mom's !
Watching a group of boys learn together, practice & then execute.
Re-living the days highlight's...again, and again, and again and small embellishments here and there along the way ( I do the same when I fish by the way ! )
Seeing boys and parents from teams past on opposing teams and being able to cheer for them and vice versa and maintaining those great friendships beyond the baseball field
Dining with the team in between games
Hotel celebrations after we take the ship....and after we lose...no matter ! The boys are always up for a good time win or lose !!
Watching two teams pray together
Watching the teams handshake after the game
My wife allowing me to stretch my never ending diet when we are on the rode for ball games ( Steak & Shake milk shakes, cheeseburgers, spicy fries, etc.....at home it's grilled chicken and broccoli ! )
The anticipation in the crowd when someone goes deep and we all hold are breath until we know it's OUTTA HERE !!!

The kids getting together with the kids from the opposing team after the game to play catch or whatever while both teams wait for thier next game. (shows me that the kids are having fun no matter who won.)
Not having to work around the house all weekend :-)

A full-on layout in the OF to rob a batter of a sure double.
An awesome pick at 1b on a throw from a SS, who had to go in the hole to get a ball that was destined to be a hit.
The swagger a pitcher gets when he gets in a grove and all things are working for him that day.
A bunt for a base hit that hugs the 3b line while the batter speeds to 1b.
But I guess what I love the most about travel ball is seeing players who love to be playing with each other, and who are well coached, play as a team and do the small things to make their team win (sac bunt, hit the ball to the right side to move/score the runner, sac fly to score the runner and stay out of the double play with one out and bases loaded, picking each other up when an error occurs, etc) |

watching the third baseman lay out to snag a line drive in fair territory.
dirty uniforms (and not just the knees)
seeing no guaranteed outs 1 through 10 in the batting order
watching a pitcher hit his spots with pinpoint accuracy
watching a batter crush a well placed pitch
watching the boys throw it around the horn on a strike out without hesitation.
catcher gunning out runners trying to steal.
Seeing a well coached team win and lose with class
seeing a good umpire with a personality mixing it up with the players between innings
Seeing the third base coach of the opposing team congratulate the 3B on a great play in the field
playing on grass infields
watching players at 9 and 10 do things on the field I wasn't doing at 12 and 13
getting to know parents and players from other teams through the forums and be able to follow their teams
a well executed bunt in a tight ball game
6-4-3 double play with a little style
seeing a kid make an awesome play, and seeing a team mate run over to slap gloves with him to acknowledge it

The time my son and husband spend together doing something they both love
All the friends my son have made from his team and other teams. We play some teams so much he's made friends with those kids also.
Defensive plays are the best....especially at the younger age groups.
I love it when the catchers in 7u and 8u, go to the mound to talk to their pitchers....I always wonder, what in the world are they talking about?
Having a reason to barbecue....gotta eat!
Dragging my teenage daughters to the games so that I don't have to go to the concession stand, go to the car when I forget something, answer my phone when I'm in the middle of watching the game, record the game with my camcorder....that's why we have teenagers right?
Meeting other moms who husbands are just as crazy about baseball as my husband.
