Posted - 03/24/2011 : 16:57:05 I've been bothered since Sunday over the loss we (Team Florida) suffered at the hands of the Canes from NC. Now I've gone back and forth with myself whether or not I'm a "Sore Loser" or not!
The Urban Dictionary states that a "Sore Loser" is someone who loses in a fair competition but whines about it on a constant basis, blaming everyone around them for their loss except themselves.
By this definition I'm not a "Sore Loser" at all. I with all my heart believe the better team on that day won our game and I certainly tip my hat to them, on the other hand I am a "Sore Loser" by definition because I have certainly done my share of whining since the loss! Now I haven't whined on this or any other web site but to my son and our coaching staff I'm guilty!
With all this said I'm asking all of you that care to read my jibber and hope you can give an honest answer whether you like me or not if you think I'm a "Sore Loser" based on the definition and as a result of my admitted actions to the loss!
By the way I'd like to shout out to Coach D, nice meeting you. I was not in the best of talking moods because I was as nervous as could be about the game at hand! Also a belated Congratulations to Bandits Baseball on a very well played tournament!!!!! |

I know that I learn infinitely more about our team when we lose than when we win, and sometimes, a good loss is what's needed to refocus the group, remind them why we work hard, and further their understanding that they are not unbeatable. I know our team had the privilege to play you guys at the SNIT Saturday morning, and we really enjoyed it, though we got hammered pretty well. We learned a ton about hustle, attention to the game, and we also learned that you guys have an unbelievable team and should be very proud. If you aren't upset after a loss, you probably don't have too much invested. If you pour your heart and soul into developing your players, you should be heartbroken to lose, but it doesn't make you a sore loser. Just my 2 cents.
Very well said. One of the best posts I have seen on here in the 3 years I have been visiting. |

Posted - 03/25/2011 : 09:30:49 10bb, I really don't think you are being more of a sore loser than you usually are ;) My Grandfather was red headed like you and he was a really big sore loser. I would just blame it on that and be done with it.
Alright, you know I am kidding with you. No, I spoke to a lot of the players and parents from your team after the game and all of you guys were gracious in defeat. At this point, you have to be able to realize that at any given point your team can lose to another, especially a team as good as the Canes. In my mind, they are top 15 in the country if not better. There is no shame in losing to a high caliber team like them and I think you and your coaches and parents realize that. I'm sure you guys were disappointed in the loss but what competitive person wouldn't have been? Best of luck to you guys. Hope to see you in Orange Beach !! |

Posted - 03/25/2011 : 00:38:41 10BB I dont know your team but I wanted to commemt on # 14 from your team. I was in a local sporting goods store on Sunday and ran into him. He was playing with his little brother in the store. I asked him how they did and he replied got beat by Canes but we will get them next time. As parents we all worry about how our kids act when they are out of our sight. Please relay this to his parents--
He was holding his little brother and kissed him on the cheek and said I love you. The little boy looked at him and said I love you better. # 14 smiled real big and kissed him again. What a nice young man. |

Posted - 03/24/2011 : 23:20:29 Hey 10BB I understand. The red hair gave you away.I remembered Papa,s comment from earlier posts.Bad time for the bats to go flat. Not that that pitcher from the canes didnt have a nasty curve but not a lotta hits that game. On the topic ,My wife can tell you im probably a sore loser myself, I wine all night long after we lose.It is not fun to lose.I always thought if you could deal with losing you probably arnt very competetive? " winning isnt everything ,Its the only thing" |
