Posted - 03/09/2011 : 16:36:09 I have been approached about having my kid fill in when a team is short of players-maybe for a weekend game or two during a tournament. We are not on any Travel teams roster and my kid is not a stud player-just a solid baseball player. I am not looking to rehash any discussion about " picking up players". I just don't want to get a team in trouble. It is possible that we could bounce around between two teams. My question is; is this legal?-do rosters get locked at some date or does it depend on the tournament? |

Posted - 03/16/2011 : 13:12:29 Your Roster will Freeze come April first for AAA, AA and Single A if you win qualiver on April 1st or later. Major is the only division that you can win a birth prior to Apirl 1st and effective immediatley your roster will freeze on April 1st. For example if a AAA teams wins a qualifer this weekend that does not count for freezing of the roster. If they win a tourny( qualifer) after April 1st then that is when the roster will be frozen. |

Go for it. I saw a team tonight on UTrip were a player on the roster has 22 teams under his name since 2005. It looks like he is a big help to other teams. Talk about a utility player. |

Posted - 03/10/2011 : 13:08:14 Although it states this is not an official roster....what is diplayed under current roster is showing what players are on the official roster...the official roster is displayed for the head coach only. This is the area where he can add and drop players. Also the "official" roster is signed by parents and id in paper form. Hope this helps to clarify. |

Posted - 03/10/2011 : 11:52:13 All the rosters I see at the USSSA web site have big bold letters at the top that read "THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ROSTER".
The USSSA rule book repeatedly references an "official on-line roster"
Can anyone clarify? How can I check our own official on-line roster to be sure it's accurate, and see other teams official on-line rosters as well? I can't find these official on-line rosters the rule book refers to. |

Posted - 03/10/2011 : 11:06:03 Thanks for the input. These are not Major teams. They just have a shortage of players due to injuries and/or other commitments and they don't want to risk a forfeit. So, I just need to check the tournament rules and be sure that he does not play for more than one team during a given tournament? |

Posted - 03/10/2011 : 06:14:09 Check the Triple Crown rules in the event that you play for one team in one TC tournament and another team in a different TC tournament. There are limitations on how much you can do that and you need to get a release from the previous manager.
Late in the season last year I think I could have gotten half the teams in our age group on that, but they really had subs so they could keep playing, not so they could win a world championship so I didn't really think the spirit of the rule had been violated so I didn't bother.
Plus I'm not sure who we would have played if they had all had to drop out of the tournament. :)

Posted - 03/09/2011 : 22:53:48 Rosters do freeze for most organizations later in the season. However, since your son is not on any other rosters I would say that is a decision for you to make. If you want your son to get some time on this team then I would say go for it! |

Posted - 03/09/2011 : 22:40:05 In Usssa all rosters will become frozen I believe Apr 1st or if they win a SNIT prior to. Other travel ball organizations dont have such rules that I am familar with. |

Posted - 03/09/2011 : 22:27:20 Many teams carry more players on their rosters than actually play with the team full time. My son is on three rosters. Nothing illegal about it. But the rules generally state that your son can not play on more than 1 team during the same tournament. So if your son is playing with the ABCs in this weekends tourney he can not also play with the XYZs in the same tournament. |
