In Hidden Valey this weekend, the director seeded the championship game based on run differential instead of runs allowed. Is this Correct? The USSSA rules states that tie breaker will be by head to head, then runs allowed. Am I missing something or did the director misinterpret the rule?

Thanks for the clarification. Still seems a little out of sorts but as long as it was done by the rules ya can't complain. These Sunday only tournys are played different anyway but overall a good day, and we certainly saw lots of things to continue working on

That makes more sense. I didn't see the 10U tournament.

Looking at the 10U tournament I can see where one may disagree with the way that it was seeded however the USSSA Rules state very clearly that "once advanced to the next tie breaker criteria, do not return to a previous criteria". This is different from NFHS and other organizations but it is their rules and from what I can see they followed them to the letter.

From my understanding this is how it would be handled in NFHS....When there was a 3 way tie you cant use head to head unless all three teams played each other so throwing out that and going to runs allowed was correct. HOWEVER, using runs allowed only eliminated the Georgia Blues...it DID NOT settle the tie since the HP team and the GB team were both at 14 runs. In this case, NFHS would then treat the remaining two teams as a two team tie breaker. As a two-team tie breaker, the HP team should have been the higher seed since they beat the GB team in a head to head game and they should have advanced.

Again, the TD followed the USSSA rules to the letter. It is just a slight difference in rules from one organization to the next that this time affected one team over another. Such is life. But, this is exactly why most people prefer the NFHS rules because what actually happened yesterday is that the HP team watched a team that they had just beaten advance while they went home. I can see why this might frustrate someone.

DISCLAIMER: I am a student of the rules but not an expert. I did look for the NFHS rules online to verify what I have always known but they are not freely available. If someone has them they can correct me if I am wrong.

According to the tournament website
http://www.usssa.com/sports/PoolStandings.asp?Pool2Get=0&TournyID=671843
The Chili Dogs and the Gamers had both allowed 14 total runs. I was told by our coach that the head to head tie breaker is thrown out when there three teams tied for one spot. The next tie breaker would have been run differential, and I think that's what happened.

I assume you are talking about the 11U Tournament, right? It looks correct to me. At the end of pool play there were 3 teams tied with 1-1 records. Smash Baseball would have been 3rd of the 3 because they allowed 27 runs in pool play. The Rhinos were 2nd because they had lost to the Blue Jays in pool play (head to head) but even with that they also allowed more runs at 23 to the Blue Jays 21. Now I wonder if I am missing something. Am I looking at the wrong tournament?
