All three of the players that are from GA on Princeton's roster played at ECB. Two of the three played for us (ECB Patriots). |

To answer your questions: 1) yes, at least two of the three played at ECB; the third may have, but I don't know. 2) The fact that most moms/dads are successful doesn't mean anything to your child: if your son has the grades, he can get in. And for most families, there will no loans -- only grants -- if the family makes less than $180,000. If they make more than that, the school still offers below-market educational loans. Princeton is now more diverse economically than it's ever been.......I know this because I'm the Alumni Schools Committee chair for Georgia (i.e., we interview every applicant from GA who applies to Princeton).
Unfortunately, there's a lot of bad information floating around -- even on this site -- about Ivy League admissions, athletics, and financial aid issues. I won't get into every post; instead, I suggest that anyone who has questions to contact the admissions offices of the respective schools in which they're interested. Don't do it between the months of November to April -- because they're knee-deep in reading applications and making admissions decisions -- but now is a fine time to send a question.

Out of curiousity I looked up Princeton baseball website. There are 3 players on the roster from the EC area and Dunwoody. Lassitor, Westminister, and Walker School. Did any of these players play at ECB. Also if you look at the Bios of each player, it has a Parent bio also. Seems everyone on the team has a parent that is a Judge, Lawyer, Doctor, etc.. Does this mean if you kid has the grades and the game he might be passed up if his parents are just commoners?

Our daughter was recruited by Dartmouth for fastpitch. So from that experience I can say for sure, at least for girls, that if the GPA, ACT and SAT are right and they want the recruit to be on their team, they will get you the money. |

i met the head coach from harvard this summer at perfect game. great guy. the percentages of income noted by gold glove are accurate. if i remember correctly its a straight 10%. for him, the money wasnt the hardest part. its the grades. minimum gpa of 3.6 to be considered. minimum. you gotta be a great student to get in front of them. |

Realty is a local senior pitcher was offered $42,500/yr in financial aid to attend an Ivy league school. Parents were only having to come up with $2,500. All based on need. I heard but do not know if factual; that Harvard has a plan where parents do not have to pay more than 10-15% of annual income to attend. Sweet deal if true and your STUDENT/athlete can handle the workload. |

That's a sobering fact. I guess I'll have to go to plan B. Are there any fencing academies in the Atlanta metro area?

We will take a 15u 9th grader on the team if we feel like the player would be a good fit academically and athletically. Our 16u team is built from scratch sense we don't have a 15u team feeding into it. We always have a little turnover from year to year. We do our best to help our players find a good fit both academically and athletically for college. |

I coach the East Cobb Patriots. We have a 14u, 16u, 17u, and 18u teams. Our 14u team is made up of 8th graders. Our 16u team is made up of 10th graders. Our 17u team is made up of 11th graders and our 18U team is made up of graduated seniors and must be committed to play at a college somewhere. To play on our 16u and 17u teams you have to be on track for the Hope Scholarship. We do showcase our 16u and 17u teams to high academic colleges and universities. We have had over 100 players go on to college to play ball. 11 of our players have been drafted in the past two years 2009 and 2010. Players that have played for us have go on to play at UGA, Florida State, UPenn, Penn State, Indiana, Princeton, Emory, Kennesaw State, Piedmont, Bates, Rhodes, Siena, North GA College and State U, and many more college and universities. You must have a high GPA to play on the 17U team and most players have very high SAT and ACT scores. Yes, they play in Ivy League showcases and are marketed to schools with high academic standards. |

In the upper age groups I believe they are a mid-range ECB team. Part of their program focuses on academics. The website says they check players GPA throughout the school year. I also heard that the 17U team tour the ivy league school showcase events in the NE.
This is all second hand info I received recently. |
