My first reaction was NICE....now this is real baseball...no stalling, no playing clock games, I like REAL BASEBALL. But today my 10u team played 18 innings straight in the 95 degree heat. We started warm ups at 10:30am and we recorded the last out after 6pm with never more than a 15 minute break between games. Game 3 was against another team that was on their 3rd game of the day, too, but they had one break between games but started warmups at 8am! Needless to say, neither team was playing their "A" game by that time. Not that it really matters for my question, but none of the coaches knew anything about this until the Managers Meeting on Thursday.
So...my question....do you think it is a good idea or a bad idea to play no time limit in ALL bracket games? Honestly, if you would have asked me before this weekend I would tell you that I LOVED the idea....now I am not so sure anymore.

I admit that deep down I like the no time limit, as well, but I started this thread at about midnight after 18 innings of 95 degree baseball and I still was not able to get cooled off. Not sure if it has more to do with all of the extra weight that I carry around or the fact that some of my parents were more nervous about us winning game 3 because we would have played another 6 innings with a 15 minute break. I am looking forward to growing our players and our team to the point that we can compete on these levels week in and week out. Listening to some of you encourages me...thanks! ;) |

The Elite 32 is in full swing and all bracket games are "no time limit" games. Double elimination. USSSA has done a good job of spreading the games out, though. |

I hate time limits being involved in baseball especially bracket play...
This would be great if all tourneys went to that format. |

Cooperstown Dreams Park has been doing it for over 10 years and it works for them. You have to play 4 in a day if you want to be the Champion. NABF at 12U (never played 10) also had no limit in their National Championship bracket games the 3 times we were there.
Ignoring that, if you have the field space to play all the games, it is July the kids should be in shape, why not. Proves my belief that those who only play with 10 kids on a team will have problems in July... |

For younger age groups and practicality sake, I'd only do unlimited time when in quarter finals and forward through the finals. |

We played in Cooperstown a few weeks ago. There is no time limit. If the games are scheduled out enought to allow for the full games, why not? It sounds like the organizers did not take the extra time needed into consideration. It looks like none of the games went into extra innings, so if the schedule had been set for the games to have a break, everything would have been good. Then again, if you assume each game goes closer to 2 hours, that is and extra 90 minutes of ball for a three game day. It wears the boys out, but makes for real baseball.
